Rosamund Pike: ‘Gone Girl’ Movie Spoilers: 5 Things We Know About The Gillian Flynn Film Adaptation

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES
By Rebecka Schumann
on March 11 2014 2:33 PM

Gone Girl" Movie Still

“Gone Girl,” the film adaptation of the best-selling Gillian Flynn novel, has already wrapped filming, but fans of the popular crime/drama are still being kept in the dark regarding the upcoming feature. Despite being in post-production, the movie, which follows the tale of Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck), a journalist in the search of his missing wife, Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike), only a singular image of the feature showing Affleck doing his best impression of the fictional character has since been released.

Fortunately for fans that cannot wait for the film’s October 3, 2014 release, here are five other things we know about the upcoming David Fincher directed adaptation:

Already getting Oscar buzz

“Gone Girl” has yet to release a teaser, yet movie buffs are already giving the David Fincher film Oscar buzz. Could this Gillian Flynn adaptation earn itself an Academy Award statuette for best picture? The future remains to be seen for this crime/drama, but according to multiple film critics, the feature does have a shot for a nomination following Fincher’s “The Social Network” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” recognitions for directing.

A new third act

Despite Flynn already completing fictional characters Nick and Amy Dunne's story following the completion of the 2012 novel, the movie will reportedly use a different ending than the best-selling book. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (her former employer) in January, Flynn revealed that as the film’s screenwriter she had been hired to write a new third act for the story’s silver screen debut, a proposition she appeared to be more than happy to fulfill. “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie,” Flynn told the magazine.

Rosamund Pike beat out big names

Rosamund Pike, a native British actress, best known for her role in the 2012 Tom Cruise thriller “Jack Reacher,” has fame incomparable to the likes of Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt, but the 35-year-old film star reportedly beat out all the big name A-listers scoring the film's leading role of Amy Dunne. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pike also trumped actors Abbie Cornish and Olivia Wilde to play the “Gone Girl” leading lady.

Christopher McQuarrie Will Direct Colin Firth In ‘Three to Kill’

Colin Firth Single Man Christopher McQuarrie Will Direct Colin Firth In Three to Kill

SCREEN RANT
Published 9 hours ago by Andrew Crump

Since busting out of director jail last year and helming a big screen treatment of Jim Grant’s Jack Reacher series, Christopher McQuarrie has been making every effort to keep himself busy; the former Wolverine scribe has hopped on board for a feature-length rendition of British TV series Unforgiven (not, as one might assume, a remake of the classic Clint Eastwood Western), and more recently signed up to take the reigns on Mission: Impossible 5, which will reunite him with Reacher star Tom Cruise. (To say nothing of his numerous writing credits, which include, but aren’t limited to, Jack the Giant Slayer and Cruise’s 2014 sci-fi action flick, Edge of Tomorrow.)

Now, McQuarrie has added yet another production to his burgeoning pile: an adaptation of Three to Kill, a book by French author Jean-Patrick Manchette. That’s not to be confused with Three Days to Kill, also French, but a completely different picture altogether. Manchette’s narrative, set on the country’s coast, revolves around a businessman who finds himself caught in the sights of two ruthless killers after witnessing a murder; with McQuarrie at the wheel and Howard Rodman on script duty, the leading role has been handed over to Colin Firth, though no other casting information has been made available thus far.

Rosamund Pike Emerges as Front-Runner to Star in David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' (Exclusive) 6:00 AM PDT 7/17/2013 by Tatiana Siegel (THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER)

But still remaining to be cast is the titular missing wife, which would be a juicy and high-profile role for a thirty-something actress. A project insider dismisses the possibility of Charlize Theron taking on the project, as had been reported. "Charlize is not doing this movie," emphasizes the source. A studio insider also rules out Natalie Portman -- who had been in the mix to star in Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo before he cast Rooney Mara -- and Emily Blunt as potential candidates due to their availability. Reese Witherspoon, who optioned the book last summer via her Type A production company, is on board as a producer only and will not star.

"There's no shortage of women interested, [and it] will just come down to who Fincher wants," the studio source notes. Jack Reacher co-star Rosamund Pike, whose name has never been mentioned in conjunction with Gone Girl, is said to be the latest contender.

Also a question mark is the shape of the screenplay, which is considered to be a particularly tricky adaptation given that much of the first half of the book is told through diary entries. Flynn is adapting, though the author has not penned a screenplay before. But the project insider says at this point there is no need for an expensive 11th-hour rewrite. "Gillian is taking it all the way with David," the insider insists. "They've found a great rhythm together."

MARTIN FREEMAN, SIMON PEGG, ROSAMUND PIKE: The World's End Review: It's Barmageddon as Pegg's pub crawl turns into a dash to save mankind (MIRROR) BY MARK ADAMS

Barmagddon: Pegg and pals drink up

THE VERDICT

In Shaun of the Dead they tackled zombies, in Hot Fuzz they took on small-town police and mobsters but for their latest dose of laddish camaraderie Pegg, Frost and director Edgar Wright take on their biggest challenge – a pub crawl with the end of the world at stake. It is a film that has everything – excessive beer quaffing, hand-to-hand combat, romance, male bonding and the prospect that the end of their pub crawl might see these old, but rather mismatched, mates involved in a fight – not just for their future, but for the whole of mankind.

Pegg quite bravely leaves behind his warm-and-matey persona to play the rather obnoxious Gary King, a failure whose only real aspiration in life seems to be to gather his old pals for a drinking tour in the home town they haven’t visited for years. Against all the odds they agree to his suggestion, despite his one-time best friend Andy (Frost) falling out with him years before and Steven (Considine) still harbouring a grudge because Andy took the girl he was in love with. Oliver (Freeman) and Peter (Marsan) are not convinced by Andy’s plan but are willing to give it a go.

The pub crawl sees the false camaraderie hilariously demolished, especially when Oliver’s sister Sam (Pike), the woman Steven and Gary both lusted after, arrives on the scene.

It seems locals they thought unwelcoming have good reason to be.

It turns out they are actually aliens who have taken over the forms of townspeople, and they are not too happy with the boozy band.

When things get serious, sleeves are rolled up and pub fights ensue (with Frost an almost lithe martial arts machine) as they try to make it to The World’s End, and the climax of their majestic quest.

World's End's Rosamund Pike a Hot MILF in Esquire UK (photos) English Actress's New Comedy Set for Release July 19 By The ImproperStaff, July

RosamundPike Esquire front Worlds Ends Rosamund Pike a Hot MILF in Esquire UK (photos)

This month, Pike will supply some of the eye candy for “The World’s End,” a doomsday comedy by Edgar Wright and British comedian and actor Simon Pegg.

Pike will play one of five old friends, including Pegg and Martin Freeman, who reunite after 20 years and decide to finish a pub crawl they started last time they got together. Only problem, aliens are invading the earth.

Although Pike may be known as a blonde bombshell, she had a classical English upbringing.

She’s only child of concert musicians and opera singers Caroline Friend and Julian Pike. Her father currently works as a professor of music and head of Operatic Studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire. She started acting as a teen but still managed to graduate from Oxford with a degree in English.

She has the range to play proper roles like the eldest Bennet sister in 2005′s Jane Austen classic, “Pride and Prejudice,” with Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Jena Malone. Or in off-beat comedies like “The World’s End.”

“To be made to laugh is one of the greatest things on Earth and to be in the company of people who do that the best – like Simon and Nick – is the best,” Pike told Esquire. “It’s good for the soul.”

Her latest film debuts July 19.

Pike is so hot she had a two-year relationship with gay actor Simon Woods. She gave birth to her first child, a son, Solo in May 2012, with Robie Uniacke, whom she’s been dating since 2010.

Already the best of friends! David Tennant and Rosamund Pike share a hug on first day of filming new movie What We Did On Our Holiday By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Already the best of friends! David Tennant hugged Rosamund Pike as the pair got to work on the first day of filming their new movie What We Did On Our Holiday

It can be difficult bonding with colleagues on the first day of a new job, but David Tennant and Rosamund Pike didn't appear to have any difficulties on Monday.

The duo were seen giving each other a friendly hug as they began work on their new movie What We Did On Our Holiday in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Doctor Who Tennant and Pike – an ex-Bond girl – are currently on location in the Scottish city while they shoot key scenes for the new BBC feature, about a couple who attempt to resolve their marital difficulties by travelling north of the border to visit relatives.

While script details remain sketchy, the pair appeared to be attempting a quick getaway during one scene – in which Pike is seen racing towards their car, her arms loaded with children's toys.

Dressed in a conventional striped top with turn-up jeans and colourful Converse trainers, the 34-year-old actress seemed to be in high-spirits as she shared a laugh with her co-star between takes.

She also ensured she was sensibly braced against the Scottish cold by climbing into a thick padded jacket whenever the cameras stopped rolling.

Rosamund Pike talks Keira and Carey (HELLO!)

After meeting on the set of the 2005 remake of Pride and Prejudice Rosamund Pike, Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan cemented a sisterly bond that went beyond the screen.

In an interview with Vogue, Rosamund describes how the three British actresses created such a strong friendship.

"We had such a ball," explained Rosamund.

"It felt like the innocent days. We felt like a bunch of sisters and we were like sisters for ages afterwards. Carey, Keira and I used to see each other a lot. Since Carey has become so famous, I don't see her so much anymore, but there was a time after the film when she would stay with me in LA and we'd all hang out. Or Keira would come round for dinner all the time and we'd try and get together. I think that we all still feel it in some way - it's just that everyone's in different countries now."

The An Education actress, who is soon to launch her first bag collection with British fashion company LK Bennett, opens up about the difficulty in distinguishing acting relationships from real-life with friendships.

ROSAMUND PIKE: FILMS IN 2013 INCLUDE THE WORLD'S END AND A LONG WAY DOWN (FAN SHARE) BY: ELIZABETH DARRELL

Rosamund Pike has had a busy couple of years, but she's yet to hit the jackpot with a big budget movie that manages to introduce her to audiences around the world. Although she was seen in 'Wrath of the Titans' and 'Jack Reacher' in the last two years, both geared to be international blockbusters, the films ended up underperforming and barely staying on anyone's radar.

However, Pike's seemed to veer away from those types of films of late, and her next few films show a lot of promise. Pike will first be seen in 'The World's End' in august, starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Martin Freeman. The film deals with five friends who unite for an epic pub crawl, and end up becoming humanity's only hope for survival. Although people have been comparing this with the other apocalypse comedy 'This Is The End', it looks like both films have vastly different tones.

Rosamund Pike: Fashion is mad (BELFAST TELEGRAPH WOMAN)

Tuesday Jan 22 2013

Rosamund Pike loves the "insane" nature of the fashion industry.

The British actress marvelled at the lavishness of the Dior Haute Couture show which she sat front row at in Paris yesterday.

Rosamund gushed about the over-the-top decor and amount of thought that goes into organising a catwalk show, which is all over in a matter of minutes.

"That's what I think is so great about fashion: when people have the budget and the imagination to really create a set that's just ephemeral and just for one day," Rosamund gushed to WWD. "It's insane and it doesn't happen in any other industry."

Rosamund wore a chic black shift dress, grey coat and bare legs to the event, which took place in the capital's Tuileries gardens. The show itself was conducted inside a mirrored box that contained a lush garden themed set, which fellow front rower Jessica Alba was relieved about.

"I love being warm and surrounded by so much greenery," she enthused about being away from the cold.

No-one's looking at you Tom! Leggy Rosamund Pike steals Cruise's spotlight in white mini-dress at Jack Reacher photocall By FEHINTOLA BETIKU and CHLOE THOMAS (MAIL ON LINE)

Leaving Tom in the shade: Rosamund Pike (centre) wowed in white on Wednesday at the Jack Reacher photocall in Tokyo

In Tom Cruise's latest movie Jack Reacher she takes on the role of the leading lady as defense attorney Helen Rodin.

And on Wednesday as Rosamund Pike took to photocall for the Christopher McQuarrie film in Toyko she managed to upstage Cruise.

Wearing a short white pleated mini-dress, Rosamund, 33, left her co-star Tom, 50, in the shade as she commanded the attention in the auditorium with her leggy showing.

Standing with her Cruise on her right and and director McQuarrie on her left, Rosamund beamed as she cut a glamorous figure in front of the cameras.

With her shoulder length straight blonde hair styled in a side parting, Pike's sleeveless high neckline number did well to put her enviable pins on display.

Keeping her make-up light, a pair of black leopard print stilettos completed the mother-of-one's understated yet striking guise.

Rosamund Pike, Tom Cruise’s latest co-star, is a classically trained Brit skilled in blockbusters Films like 'Jack Reacher' expand opportunities, says star of 'Made in Dagenham' and 'Pride and Prejudice' (NY DAILY NEWS)

BY MIKE HAMMER / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS PUBLISHED: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2012, 6:00 AM UPDATED: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2012, 6:00 AM

British actress Rosamund Pike has quietly become the woman who gives blockbusters their brains.

The beauty who co-stars with Tom Cruise in “Jack Reacher,” which opened last Friday, has previously busted chops as a sexy villainess in the 2002 James Bond flick “Die Another Day” and faced off against the Rock in “Doom.”

Earlier this year, she enticed the ancient world as Andromeda in the myth-merizing action sequel “Wrath of the Titans.”

“I’ve had tremendous opportunities to work with some wonderful people on projects that have given me a huge spotlight,” she says of her ass-kicking résumé — after training that would seemingly lean more Streep than Stallone. “It’s been great fun, and gives me the freedom.”

Pike, a classically trained, London-bred daughter of concert musicians and opera performers, performed with Britain’s National Youth Theatre as a teen. She built a solid Shakespearean background even before leaving high school.

“I’ve loved doing those action films,” says Pike, 33. “They’ve provided me with great experiences and opportunity.

“But I would argue actually that ‘Jack Reacher’ is not a classic action film ... and a lot of that has to do with the way Tom approaches it.”

Rosamund Pike: It was startling to meet Jack Reacher co-star Tom Cruise (METRO)

Sitting on a plush grey sofa, her posture so perfect you’d think she’d set it with a protractor, Rosamund Pike is talking about that dreaded life-work balance that we Brits are so bad at. ‘They say that when we talk about balance, we mean no balance at all,’ she says, in those deliciously sculpted tones of hers. ‘When the French talk about “équilibre”, as they call it, they actually mean they achieve it. We British mums apparently never achieve balance. We talk about life-work balance – it generally means something we’re not really succeeding at. We work too hard and life goes down the pan.’

The Hammersmith-born daughter of two opera singers, who rose to fame a decade ago in the James Bond film Die Another Day as the ice-cold Miranda Frost, is out to prove otherwise. We meet just a few months after the 33-year-old Pike gave birth to her first child, a son named Solo. In the midst of shooting Simon Pegg comedy The World’s End, she’s also dealing with the aftermath of a burglary at her mews house in West Kensington. And she’s relocating to a new place with her partner, businessman Robie Uniacke, who it turns out has just sold her TV on eBay without telling her.

Richard Armitage on The Hobbit, beard grooming and dwarf workouts (GQ)

By Oliver Franklin 14 December 12

"I just want to convince people I'm not 5"2 and hairy," smiles Richard Armitage, sitting back in a comfortable chair at London's Claridges hotel. "That'll be the biggest challenge." The 41-year-old actor's concern is understandable: as dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson's long-awaited Hobbit trilogy, he's shrunken and wigged-up beyond all recognition. So, let GQ settle it: in real life, Armitage cuts an enviably handsome figure. He's easily 6"1, lightly stubbled and today clad in a sleek J. Lindeberg suit with a plaid shirt and tie. After almost two decades on British TV in the likes of Spooks, Robin Hood and Chris Ryan's Strike Back, The Hobbit marks a step up for Armitage - into the newly world of global franchises and screaming fans. Arriving nine years after the release of The Return Of The King, the film is a visually stunning return to Middle Earth, shot in ultra-clear 3D - but by the time Howard Shore's inimitable score sets in,  and Andy Serkis is shouting "precious", it feels like we never left. Ahead of the film's release this weekend, we sat down with Armitage over a glass of wine to talk beard grooming, Hobbit obsessives and why Brits work best in the shire.

GQ.com: We were at the Jack Reacher junket yesterday talking to David Oyelowo, who was also in Spooks. Do you think there was something about that show, or is this just a great moment for British actors?

Richard Armitage: We were at the same year at drama school! I loved that show so much. I found it really challenging, it forced you to work at speed. I always said when they finished Spooks they should have made a movie of it. Actually my ultimate role is to play another spy…

Rosamund Pike sheds ice-queen shackles with meatier role in 'Jack Reacher' (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST)

Rosamund Pike has shed her ice-queen imageto star opposite Tom Cruise in their action-packed new film, writes James Mottram

You might think the daughter of two opera singers, who holds a degree in English from Oxford University, and once counted Chelsea Clinton as a friend might be a little, well, unapproachable. It hardly helps that in the case of Rosamund Pike, she rose to fame as the icy Miranda Frost in 2002's James Bond film Die Another Day, a role she played rather too well. All of a sudden she was the English rose with thorns, aloof and standoffish. Or as she explains it: "Suddenly, my personality was usurped by Miranda Frost's hostility and cool."

In fact, the 33-year-old Pike is a rather warm soul who has a way of making you feel, if only for half an hour, like an old friend. When we meet at London's Soho Hotel, Pike curled up on a cream sofa, wearing a cream blouse, spiky heeled boots and black leggings, we talk about all manner of things - the merits of iPads, the redemption of tennis player Andy Murray, boozy Saturday nights out in the suburbs, her (not entirely serious) plans for a daytime TV chat show with Pierce Brosnan, her improving American accent and the "horrendous burglary" she endured a few weeks back.

This is a particularly hectic time for Pike: she's just started shooting The World's End, a comedy about an epic pub crawl from Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright. She's in the midst of moving house with her partner, Robie Uniacke, a businessman. They're also contending with parenthood. Pike gave birth in May to a boy they named Solo.

For all this, Pike presents a serene façade. "I'm much more chaotic than people realise," she says in her cut-glass accent. "People think I'm incredibly calm. It makes me laugh. They say things like, 'You've got this wonderful air of calm about you.' I take the compliment, because the reality is so far removed."

Actress Rosamund Pike moves home with boyfriend Robie Uniacke (TELEGRAPH)

Rosamund Pike declares that “freedom is my buzzword” and has spoken of how her parents never owned a house. The 33-year-old actress is, however, now putting down roots with her boyfriend, Robie Uniacke, 50.

The star of Die Another Day and the forthcoming film Jack Reacher is moving out of her rental flat in west London and into a shared property in the north of the capital with Uniacke, by whom she has an eight-month-old daughter, Solo.

Uniacke, a reformed drug addict, has three children by Rose Batstone, the interior designer, and a son by his first wife, Emma Howard, the daughter of the late Earl of Carlisle.

Pike was previously engaged to Joe Wright, who directed her in the film Pride and Prejudice. He broke off their engagement after the “save-the-date” cards had been sent to their wedding guests. Her earlier boyfriend, Simon Woods, turned out to be homosexual.
