Does Benedict Cumberbatch deserve to win Emmy #2 for ‘Sherlock: The Lying Detective’? [POLL]

GOLD DERBY
Marcus James Dixon
TV May 4, 2017 6:00 pm

“Sherlock” fans, do you think Benedict Cumberbatch deserves to win a second Emmy Award for playing genius detective Sherlock Holmes on the PBS program? Now that we know “Sherlock: The Lying Detective” is Cumberbatch’s official Emmy 2017 submission should he receive a nomination, is his performance good enough to win a bookend trophy following his jaw-dropping 2014 victory for “Sherlock: His Last Vow”? Vote in our poll below.

As in years past, “Sherlock” is once again trying its luck in the race for Best TV Movie by submitting only one of its three telefilms for Emmy consideration. The network feels confident that “The Lying Detective” is their potential winner this year — that’s the second installment from Season 4 that aired January 8. The case is a twisty one, as Sherlock is contacted by the daughter of an entrepreneur who she claims has confessed to murder, only she can’t remember the specific details because her father wiped her memory.

Joining Cumberbatch’s Sherlock as usual is Martin Freeman as supporting sidekick John Watson. Freeman also won an Emmy in 2014 for “Sherlock,” though awards pundits theorize he may have earned a few extra votes thanks to his starring role in “Fargo” that same year. The other eligible supporting cast members for the movie/miniseries Emmy races are Toby Jones as Culverton Smith, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft Holmes, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, and Sian Brooke as Elizabeth.

Last year “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” earned six nominations and went on to become the first installment to win the Emmy for Best TV Movie. Besides Cumberbatch’s Emmy victory in 2014, his other major claim to fame in the awards spotlight was when he earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for “The Imitation Game” (2014).

‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Shares First Photo of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Return

SCREEN CRUSH
Kevin Fitzpatrick

Benedict Cumberbatch, you busy bee. Just days after hanging around the comic shops of NYC dressed as Doctor Strange (and presumably some filming as well), the Sherlock star is already back in action for Season 4, popped collar and all. Check out the first look at Sherlock Season 4, courtesy of writer Mark Gatiss!

Following the announcement of production last week, Gatiss shared an off-screen photo of Cumberbatch back in the role that arguably made him famous. The hair looks a bit shorter, and the coat perhaps new, but either way, London’s favorite detective is back to business (and hopefully cleaner than when last we saw him).

Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy... was Starter for 10 the film that kicked off a new era for British movie stars?

WHAT'S ON
17:46, 23 JUNE 2015
BY KATHRYN WILLIAMS

It was the story of a working-class underdog in 1980s Bristol, but the star-studded cast of 2006 film Starter for 10 have become huge global stars in their own right.

The film followed student Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) as he embarked on his first year at Bristol University, battling cliched opposition from peers as he attempted to get on the popular TV show, University Challenge.

So, let's see which familiar faces got their Starter for 10 correct with the film:

James McAvoy

Now known for his role as a young Professor Charles Xavier in the X Men series, Scottish actor McAvoy was already familiar to fans of Paul Abbott's television show, Shameless, in which he co-starred with his now-wife, Anne-Marie Duff.

He's also impressed in movies such as The Last King of Scotland, Atonement and the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Filth.

Benedict Cumberbatch

He's our Sherlock Holmes here in Wales thanks to Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle's character for the BBC hit, but back in 2006 (or 1985) Cumbers was the snotty nosed team-mate of McAvoy's Brian.

Since 2010 he's been filming Sherlock in and around Wales, but he's also gained notoriety from Hollywood thanks to roles in The Imitation Game, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, 12 Years a Slave and as the voice of dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

 Mark Gattiss

Any fan of comedy would recognise Gatiss as one of the League of Gentlemen, but it wasn't until Sherlock he became a household name.

In the 1980s movie he portrayed University Challenge host Bamber Gascoigne who puts the main characters to the test on national TV.

In Sherlock (which he co-created) Gatiss also plays the titular character's brother, Mycroft.

Gatiss also has a small recurring role in Game of Thrones.

Sherlock exhibition: Thousands of fans turn up to get a glimpse of star of hit show Benedict Cumberbatch

MIRROR
22:49, 27 April 2015
By Rod McPhee

The crowd surges, there’s an explosion of camera flashes and teenage girls scream their idol’s name.

Not Harry, or Zayn, or even Justin. The man they’re all here to see is Benedict Cumberbatch , star of BBC1’s cult hit Sherlock .

This is Sherlocked, the world’s first convention for fans of the show – which promises them a chance to meet their idol.

For the uninitiated, this level of hysteria for a 38-year-old actor may seem a mystery worthy of Holmes himself.

For the 6,000 self-styled Cumberbitches and Cumberboys who have turned up here, however, it’s elementary.

Many are dressed as their favourite cast member and are happy to shell out up to £45 for a photo with Sherlock himself.

Some cough up almost £3,000 for a VIP pass and think nothing of paying £30 for a scrap of wallpaper from the show’s set.

Others happily spend £500 for a pair of signed Sherlock and John Watson action figures and see nothing wrong with forking out £15 for a tea towel.

But since many have journeyed from one of the 200 countries where Sherlock is now broadcast, money is no object.

They simply want to submerge themselves in Cumberworld – and, as Benedict takes to the stage to address the convention, he seems genuinely thrilled to be joining them.

“Though I’ve got a microphone and I’m speaking to however many people, THIS is normal,” he beams, almost reassuring the crowd which is 80% female and 100% delirious.

“I’m not self-consciously walking through a shopping centre or an art gallery knowing that people are noticing me. I don’t think I’ll ever adjust to that.

“But being able to feel comfortable enough to speak to you now, to talk directly and honestly, it makes me feel like I’m the same person I was when all this began.”

His easy charisma seduces the audience during a question-and-answer session that is the highlight of the event.

As he delivers a couple of impressions – one of his dragon voice from The Hobbit movie, the other Chewbacca from Star Wars – even a couple of stray F-bombs can’t make Benedict’s devotees love him less.

But he may have upset a few audience members when he noted one special reason why Mr Cumberbatch and Mr Holmes are, in fact, two different people.

He says: “I don’t have the abilities that he does, I don’t have the same black curly hair he does, I don’t play the violin and I have a family on the way.”

Benedict, who wed theatre director Sophie Hunter, 37, in February, even teases his fans with a mention of his baby on the way later this year.

“I’m very excited,” he says, extracting a communal sigh from the audience. “I’m a bit busy at home at the moment, though not as busy as my wife, if you know what I mean.”

After the Q&A, besotted fans spend hours queuing just to get into another queue to get into yet another queue to have their photo taken with him.

Benedict Cumberbatch WILL appear at Sherlock fan convention Sherlocked!

UNREALITY PRIMETIME
February 10th, 2015 by Anna Howell.

sherlocked poster

After the disappointment of it being postponed last year, Sherlock fans wanting to attend the first official show convention will be pleased to know that it was worth the wait as Benedict Cumberbatch himself will be in attendance and so there is no possible way for any of this to change, they have released a shiny new poster as way of a promise.

Sherlocked is due to take place at London’s Excel centre this April, 24th through to the 26th, and will feature all the usual thrills of a convention including talks and activities.

Bosses have confirmed that Benny, who plays the title role in the hit BBC detective series, will be there to sign autographs and meet with supporters.

Tickets for this exciting event start at just £29 for a one day pass. However, if you want your day to include an autograph from Cumberbatch then you will have to dig deep and shell out the whopping £595 for a platinum pass or £2995 for a VIP pass.

But even if you do that you aren’t completely guaranteed a signed photo of the star as these are being sold on a first come, first serve basis.

Don’t worry though, you can always console yourselves with an autograph from creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, producer Sue Vertue or production designer Arwel Jones, who will all be there too!

BRISTOL POST
January 6, 2015

FANS gathered outside the Colston Hall today eager to get a glimpse of one of the stars of Sherlock on what appears to be its second day of filming in Bristol.

'Sherlock' Co-Creator Tells Fans to Expect "Tragedy" in Season 4

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
10:24 PM PST 11/20/2014 by Abid Rahman

Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss has some bad news for fans of the hit BBC drama, telling them to "expect tragedy" during the forthcoming fourth season.

Speaking to the Radio Times on Thursday, Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft Holmes in the show, said, "You can always expect tragedy as well as adventure, that’s just how it goes." He refused to reveal whether that meant the death of John Watson's wife, Mary, as happens in Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories.

The show, which stars man-of-the-moment Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role and The Hobbit's Martin Freeman as Watson, has Freeman's real-life partner, Amanda Abbington, co-starring as Mary Watson. Freeman himself has speculated before that Mary would likely meet her end, telling the Daily Telegraph, “While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. … So [John] gets married, and then Mary dies — so at some point presumably she’ll die.”

7 Benedict Cumberbatch performances you haven't seen but should

TELEGRAPH
By Guy Kelly8:00AM GMT
01 Nov 2014

benedict

He may be one of the most famous actors on the planet, with scores of fervent Cumberpeople in every port, but even Benedict Cumberbatch didn't get to where he is today without a significant amount of hard work.

Long before Sherlock, Star Trek, The Hobbit and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy made him a household name, Cumberbatch built an incredibly varied CV in film and television, playing an impressive variety of characters.

From prime ministers and physicists to policemen and parents (and that's without leaving the Ps), here are seven of the roles that made him the phenomenon he is today.

STUART: A LIFE LIVED BACKWARDS

An adaptation of Alex Masters’ 2005 biography of his friend, Stuart Shorter, Cumberbatch starred with Tom Hardy in this join production by the BBC and HBO. Cumberbatch plays writer Masters in the film, with Hardy as Shorter, a career criminal.

Hardy’s explosive performance was an early example of the muscular intensity he has become known for and earned him a BAFTA nomination in the process, while Cumberbatch was similarly lauded for a moving, restrained portrayal opposite.

STARTER FOR 10

Shining in an impressive cast of British up-and-coming talent of the time, Cumberbatch appears in this 2006 Tom Hanks-produced romantic comedy as Patrick, the captain of Bristol’s University Challenge team.

In the film Patrick is a fiercely stubborn intellectual - a market Cumberbatch has since cornered with some aplomb over the last decade - and provides many of the laughs. It also features a host of future Cumberbatch collaborators, among them James McAvoy (whose character in Atonement is framed for a crime Cumberbatch’s commits), Rebecca Hall (his wife in Parade’s End), Mark Gatiss (the writer of Sherlock, as well as playing Mycroft in the series) and Charles Dance (who appears in The Imitation Game).

HAWKING

Despite being made over ten years ago, the 2004 BBC television film Hawking is arguably still Cumberbatch’s most critically acclaimed role.

That isn’t to say his work since has been in any way a disappointment – he remains one of a small group of actors who consistently manage to please audiences and critics alike – but illustrates just how highly regarded his performance was.

The film, which charts Stephen Hawking’s early years as a PhD student at Cambridge University and was the first portrayal of the physicist’s life, was nominated for two BAFTA awards and illustrated Cumberbatch’s impressive range. Curiously, one of his biggest rivals come this awards season could be Eddie Redmayne, who has received tremendous reviews for his own portrayal of Hawking in A Theory of Everything.

FORTYSOMETHING

Looking back, it seems a more than a little absurd that Benedict Cumberbatch once played the son of Hugh Laurie and Anna Chancellor on television (his real parents are over twenty years older than either) but in 2003 he did, and somehow pulled it off.

Laurie also directed this ITV comedy drama series which saw him play Paul Slippery, a doctor hitting a mid-life crisis as his wife begins a new job as a head-hunter. Together they have three sons, the eldest of which is the precocious student Rory, played by a fresh-faced Cumberbatch.

The series hardly set ratings alight, but gave Cumberbatch a valuable chance to act in a major series with established stars, after several years of attempting to break through.

Mark Gatiss: Great Documentary About Ghost Story Writer M.R. James From “Sherlock” Star/Creator

PATHEOS.COM
October 25, 2014 by Thomas L. McDonald

Writer/actor Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who, Sherlock, League of Gentlemen) writes and hosts this fine documentary on the greatest ghost story writer of them all: medievalist and Biblical scholar Montague Rhodes James. Special treats include locations from James stories (such as St Bertrand de Comminges, stuffed crocodile and all), a passing shot of a tombstone for “Mrs Mothersole” from his childhood home, some fantastic medieval illumination, and more. I have to give credit to Gatiss (who is himself gay) for exploring James’ sexuality while declining to impose modern ideas of homosexuality. (James is best described as wholly asexual.)

'Sherlock' season 4 spoilers: Holmes brothers to provide family background of Sherlock

CHRISTIAN TODAY
Published 23 October 2014  |   Kristin Mariano

Rumors claim that Sherlock's brothers will appear in the fourth season of the hit TV series.

A lot of people are familiar with Mycroft Holmes who is claimed to be as smart and dysfunctional as the popular London detective. Mycroft is a character that has high deductive abilities that exceeds even that of his brother's. However, he does not want to exert physical effort to conclude cases. Moreover, it is claimed that he works for the British government.

Meanwhile, Sherlock has another brother named Sherrinford Holmes, who is the eldest among the Holmes brothers. According to documents, Sherlock Holmes belongs to a family of country squires where the eldest manages the household. If Mycroft has a job in the government, he cannot manage the house.

Rumors also say that an A-list actor will play the role of Sherrinford Holmes. Whispers add that the crew is planning to tap "Thor" and "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston. In a Q&A in Brazil, "Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss joked about casting Hiddleston for the role.

With the inclusion of Sherlock's brothers in the series, it is expected that the familial background of Sherlock will be revealed.

"Sherlock" season 4 is returning to BBC in early 2016 with no official date yet. However, the series will hold a Christmas special planned for December 2015 and will be based on the mystery "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle."

'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date: Which Main Character Dies? Plus 20 Spoilers!

LATIN TIMES
By Susmita Baral | Oct 07 2014, 12:00PM EDT

Sherlock-Season-4-Air-Date-Spoilers

The BBC announced earlier this year that "Sherlock" will be returning. The network released a tentative air year (not to be confused with an official air date) for the season 4 of "Sherlock." According to the BBC, the show will have a 2016 air date, keeping to the pattern of releasing a season every two years. In addition to a tentative 2016 release date, the BBC revealed that there will be a one episode special prior to the fourth season.

Release date aside, there may be some sadness in the episodes to come. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Steve Moffat was if the new season can top season 3 and his reply was exciting and ominous: “We have a plan to top it. And I do think our plan is devastating. We’ve practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan … we’re probably more excited that we’ve ever been about Sherlock.”

Now, we know "devastating" is a subjective word and the verbiage is open to interpretation, but one has to wonder if Moffat is hinting at a death. A death of a major character will surely shake things up but the following question is which character will and can die? Through the process of elimination, we're inclined to believe it will be Sherlock's family member or Mrs. Hudson. The latter's death will certainly affect Sherlock more, and in turn, pull at the heartstrings of the viewers.

Here are 20 spoilers for season 4 of "Sherlock":

1. It will be unexpected. "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect ... " teases Moffat to the BBC.

2. The show will be darker. "We’re going to try to take it somewhere we’ve never been before — and I don’t mean outer space," said Moffat to Entertainment Weekly." It will be challenging place to go. We always start with a re-introduction that builds toward a darker climax — we might just be going darker [from the outset]. We got a very, very good set of ideas."

3. The plans for season 3 are top secret.  Moffat told Entertainment Weekly that season 4 will be even better than season 3. "We have a plan to top [Season 3]," said Moffat. "And I do think our plan is devastating. We’ve practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan … we’re probably more excited that we’ve ever been about Sherlock."

Sherlock Season 4 Release Date, Christmas Special Spoilers: Benedict Cumberbatch Dishes on Sherlock's Odd Behavior?

BREATHECAST
October 4, 2014

sherlock animated GIF

Regarding the Christmas special, Cumberbatch revealed that his character may be having a difficult time despite the happy holiday season.

Despite Sherlock's calm nature that was seen in the previous seasons, the viewers will see an unusual side of the intelligent detective during the Christmas special.

"We've never seen [Sherlock] being really pressed yet, so that will be interesting," Cumberbatch told Empire Magazine.

There has been no news as to what will be the reason for Sherlock's odd behavior, but reports say that the episode will be based on 'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle'.

The production for the special episode has not started yet, but it is speculated that the filming will begin in January. The slight delay in filming is said to be due to the busy schedule of Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Although there have been no confirmation as to what the special episode and the upcoming season will be about, Cumberbatch promised the storylines will be amazing.

Meanwhile, the show's co-creator Steven Moffat claimed that the team is planning to top the applauded finale episode of the third season.

It is said that the production team is planning to have a devastating plan for the upcoming season.

"We practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them the plan. Honestly, Mark [Gatiss] and myself are so excited with what we've got coming up, probably more excited than we've ever been about Sherlock. ... Honestly I think we can [top the last series]," he told Hollywood Reporter.

In a recent interview with MTV, Benedict Cumberbatch hinted that Moriarty will be coming back in the next season. The actor who plays the role of the popular detective also expressed his excitement to return the filming and production of the modern day adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries.

Cumberbatch was asked if the role of Moriarty, portrayed by Andrew Scott, will be returning again next season, and he answered by saying that he thinks so. He also added how he casually chooses to forget so that he could rediscover it again later on, KpopStarz reported.

While the cast members do not have copies of the script yet, Cumberbatch mentioned how they get a rough idea of where the show would be going.

The role of Moriarty did not appear as much in the last season with a minimal appearance in the first episode and another appearance in the third episode in Sherlock's mind-palace as well as the last episode in the third season.

sherlock animated GIF

Also, another character may be joining the show next season, as co-creator Mark Gatiss is reportedly trying to get Tom Hiddleston to join as Holmes' third brother in the fourth season.

Rumors about the casting of Loki from "Thor" and "Avengers" as Sherrinford Holmes have been going around online. However, the star has not given his comments regarding the matter, relegating the status of these reports to mere speculations.

New series of detective drama Sherlock and one-off 2015 special announced

STV
July 2, 2014

It has been announced that Sherlock will return to screens for a television special, followed by a series of three new episodes.

The last series saw Sherlock’s life change a lot - he returned from the dead, his best friend John Watson married Mary Morstan and he met his match in Charles Augustus Magnussen. After the briefest of exiles, Sherlock came back only to face one of his biggest mysteries yet. Why is Moriarty’s face being broadcast on every television in the land?

Speaking about the return of the series, co-creator, writer and executive producer Steven Moffat says: "A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run!

"Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect..."

Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss, added: "Series four! At last! It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing...a special! Not only that, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The game is on - again!"

'Sherlock' Season 4 Spoilers: Benedict Cumberbatch's Onscreen Love Interest Irene Adler to Return?

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES
By Sonalee singh | June 20, 2014 12:53 PM EST

There is still no news as to when would "Sherlock" season 4 would go on air but fans can't wait to know as to what all would happen in the new season of BBC's immensely popular detective series.  The much evident question in the fans mind is the return of Sherlock's potential love interest Irene Adler.

The character, portrayed as a dominatrix by Lara Pulver left an indelible impression when she almost beat Sherlock Holmes in the episode called "The Scandal in Bohemia". After that she only appeared once in Sherlock's mind palace in the episode called "The Sign of Three". Interestingly, Adler appeared in Sherlock's imagination in all her naked glory.

Would Adler return in Season 4? Fans think that the spark she shares with Sherlock it would be hard for her to stay away from him forever and she may return in Season 4. However, if the creators go by Sir Arthur Thomas Doyle's stories, then Irene may never come back as she does not appear after "The Scandal in Bohemia" (the short story "A Scandal in Belgravia," in which Sherlock meets the character, is based on).

However, Benedict Cumberbatch, would love to have Pulver back on the show as Irene.

"She was terrific fun," he told the Radio Times last year. "She was so brilliant in [Series 2] and we'd love to have her back. Maybe not in this series, but she's a great strong character, even though she only appeared once."

But one of the co-creators Mark Gatiss, who also plays Sherlock's brother Mycroft Holmes, is in doubts whether Adler's character should be brought back or not.

Each season thus far has been released with a two-year gap -- season one aired in 2010, Season 2 premiered in 2012, and the third season in 2014 -- and with season 3 having aired at the start of this year, it would make sense that the fourth season arrive in 2016.

It should be noted; however, that the show isn't intentionally seeking a pattern and that BBC has reportedly denied the rumors that Season 4 will return in 2016. In fact, RadioTimes reports, citing anonymous sources, that the new season of "Sherlock" could be airing as early as next year! “It will not be this year – but 2015 is very much the hope and expectation,” said the source, adding that production will take place at the start of 2015.

Until then, here are ten things you should know about season 4 of "Sherlock":

1. Moriarty could be alive. The last scene of "Sherlock" season 3 opened the door for Moriarty (the main villain from season 2) to be alive. The villain made his return across the digital screens of the world, which leaves his fate just as murky as the new season's premiere date. The character popped up in Season 3 -- he was scene in Sherlock's imagination -- but could Moriarty have faked his own death?

“I can’t really say what we’re doing with that, but there is no last-minute whim in this," said Steven Moffat to Vulture when asked about the new twist. "We’ve had what we’re going to do with Moriarty in place from before the second season. Exactly what we’re going to do. I remember talking it through with Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty. Wait and see what’s going to happen.”

2. Watson will be a father. Mary Morstan wed Watson in season 3, and by the last episode, it was revealed that Morstan and Watson were expecting a baby. When the show returns to the screen, Mary would either have already given birth or she would be on the verge of it. Regardless of the minor details of when she pops out Baby Watson, one thing can be certain: Fans will see Watson, Morstan, and Holmes adjusting to a new member in their lives.

3. John and Mary will be interesting parents. In an interview with Vulture, actress Amanda Abbington revealed what kind of parents John and Mary would be.

"On the one hand, they’d probably be reckless because they’re both quite psychopathic," said Abbington. "But I think an assassin and an army doctor who loves trouble, I mean, that kid has got nothing to worry about. Screwed up mentally, of course, but if there’s any bullying on the playground, we’re covered."

4. Janine will be back. Think you saw the end of Mary's friend and Sherlock's temporary love interest, Janine? Nope! She'll be back and they'll be friends, according to Moffat.

"He likes her, though," the writer told IGN. "He'll see her again. They'll be pals. I loved Yasmine's performance as Janine -- she still likes him in the end. At some point, you know, if Sherlock Holmes has to go to a function and he needs a date, he'll phone her up. Now, he'll not expect her to say no. She'll be very cross with him, but she'll show up, and they'll have a good time. They will, because he likes her."

5. The third Holmes brother may appear. Sherlock Holmes has another brother, Sherrinford Holmes, according to some variations of short stories. Hardcore fans have long been speculating that the creative team of the show will introduce the third brother to add a new dimension to the hit series, and Moffat was cryptic about whether or not this brother will make an appearance in the next season.

6. A-list actor may be playing the third brother. There has been a great deal of online discussion about "Thor" and "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston joining the cast of "Sherlock" as Benedict Cumberbatch's character's third brother. In a Q&A in Brazil, "Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also happens to play Mycroft Holmes in the series, joked about the idea when assked if Hiddleston would be considered for the role.

"Tom would be wonderful in 'Sherlock,'" Gatiss says. "But he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like."
