Patrick Stewart Pays Homeless Man Not to Vote For Donald Trump

BREITBART
by JEROME HUDSON13 May 2016

Patrick Stewart is so vehemently opposed to a Donald Trump presidency that he’s apparently paying people not to vote for him.

The actor shared a picture with his two million-plus Twitter followers this week that shows a seemingly homeless man holding a handwritten sign asking for money in exchange for a promise to not vote for Trump.

“Give me a dollar, or I vote for Trump,” the man’s sign read.

The X-Men star said he handed the man a five dollar bill, noting that it was “worth” the extra four bucks.

“Made me forget the humidity for a moment. Worth 5 bucks,” read Stewart’s tweet, that has since gone viral on the social media site.

Stewart’s post came a week after the English actor aired his grievances about how no one saw the “dreadful” presidential candidate Donald Trump coming.

“Well, of course, we had no idea that Dreadful Trump would be up to these antics that he is up to now,” Stewart told Vice in an interview earlier this month. “And I call them ‘antics’ because how could they possibly be taken seriously.”

James McAvoy and Wife Anne-Marie Duff to Divorce

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actors James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are ending their nearly 10-year marriage.

The couple released a joint statement Friday announcing their divorce and commitment to co-parenting their 5-year-old son.

McAvoy, 37, stars in X-Men: Apocalypse, opening later this month. Duff, 45, starred in the original U.K. version of Shameless.

Patrick Stewart keeps a bag of James McAvoy's hair at home in his safe

As far as keepsakes go, it is certainly among the more unusual. But when Sir Patrick Stewart asked for a bag of James McAvoy's hair, he was not joking.

The veteran - and hairless - actor, who is well-known for his off-beat humour, now keeps the younger star's locks in a safe at his home.

McAvoy, who plays the younger version of Sir Patrick's Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, had to shave his head for the new Apocalypse film.

The 37-year-old took a video call with 75-year-old Sir Patrick while his hair has being cut ahead of filming, so he could "pass on the baldy baton".

During the FaceTime call, Sir Patrick asked if he could have some of McAvoy's hair to keep for himself.

And the director duly obliged, bagging it up and sending it to Sir Patrick, who now keeps it in a safe - which McAvoy confessed he finds "kind of creepy".

Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy at a global fan screening of X-Men Apocalypse in London

McAvoy revealed the gesture as he spoke on The Graham Norton Show about finally going bald for the new Apocalypse film.

He said: "I shaved (my head) months before to see what it would look like and turned up on the shoot with about two month's growth and they were like, 'What have you done?' and I had to have the first of 17-hour hair extensions sessions.

"When we finally shaved it off we decided to FaceTime Patrick Stewart so he could pass on the baldy baton.

"We though it was funny when he asked if he could have some of the hair, but it turns out the director bagged it up for him and he now has all my hair at home in a safe, which is kind of creepy."

Jennifer Lawrence - who plays the blue-tinged, femme fatale Mystique - last year revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse will be her last in the superhero franchise.

Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy... was Starter for 10 the film that kicked off a new era for British movie stars?

WHAT'S ON
17:46, 23 JUNE 2015
BY KATHRYN WILLIAMS

It was the story of a working-class underdog in 1980s Bristol, but the star-studded cast of 2006 film Starter for 10 have become huge global stars in their own right.

The film followed student Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) as he embarked on his first year at Bristol University, battling cliched opposition from peers as he attempted to get on the popular TV show, University Challenge.

So, let's see which familiar faces got their Starter for 10 correct with the film:

James McAvoy

Now known for his role as a young Professor Charles Xavier in the X Men series, Scottish actor McAvoy was already familiar to fans of Paul Abbott's television show, Shameless, in which he co-starred with his now-wife, Anne-Marie Duff.

He's also impressed in movies such as The Last King of Scotland, Atonement and the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel Filth.

Benedict Cumberbatch

He's our Sherlock Holmes here in Wales thanks to Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle's character for the BBC hit, but back in 2006 (or 1985) Cumbers was the snotty nosed team-mate of McAvoy's Brian.

Since 2010 he's been filming Sherlock in and around Wales, but he's also gained notoriety from Hollywood thanks to roles in The Imitation Game, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, 12 Years a Slave and as the voice of dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

 Mark Gattiss

Any fan of comedy would recognise Gatiss as one of the League of Gentlemen, but it wasn't until Sherlock he became a household name.

In the 1980s movie he portrayed University Challenge host Bamber Gascoigne who puts the main characters to the test on national TV.

In Sherlock (which he co-created) Gatiss also plays the titular character's brother, Mycroft.

Gatiss also has a small recurring role in Game of Thrones.

Michael Fassbender’s “Macbeth” movie dubbed a triumph at Cannes

Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

Michael Fassbender joined the stars at the Cannes Film Festival to premiere his latest, Macbeth, which he admits he didn’t even see prior to Saturday.

“I’m going to be seeing it with everyone else at the premiere … I can tell you that Marion [Cotillard] as Lady Macbeth is incredible. I know that from being across from her during the scenes. She’s mesmerizing,” Fass told Entertainment Weekly.

The critics absolutely agreed. The film got some stellar reviews, including this rave from the U.K.’s Telegraph: “After seeing Fassbender and Cotillard in these roles, the thought of ever seeing anyone else play them fades into irrelevance.”

Michael Fassbender on making 'Macbeth': 'the Scottish film'

THE DENVER POST
By Jake Coyle AP Film Writer
POSTED:   05/22/2015 05:22:09 AM MDT

CANNES, France (AP) — Michael Fassbender doesn't know if the "Macbeth" curse carries over to movie adaptations, but he'd rather not test it.

"The Scottish film" is what Michael Fassbender calls his "Macbeth" adaption, which is set to premiere Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival. He's maintaining the theatrical superstition of not speaking the name of Shakespeare's play — at least he wasn't in an interview ahead of the festival.

"Sometimes I say it, sometimes I don't," Fassbender said. "It depends on the day."

"Macbeth," usually referred to by the euphemism "the Scottish play" by actors wary of its legendary spell, will be the final film to screen in competition at Cannes. Directed by Australian director Justin Kurzel and co-starring Marion Cotillard as Lady Macbeth, it has been eagerly awaited as the blood-soaked finale of the French Riviera festival, which concludes Sunday with the presentation of the Palme d'Or top prize.

Although interpreting Shakespeare is a traditional rite of passage for any British Isles actor of ambition, it wasn't a priority for Fassbender, the Oscar-nominated actor of "12 Years a Slave," ''Shame" and the "X-Men" films. The film marks the first entry into Shakespeare, on stage or screen, by the German-born, Ireland-raised Fassbender.

Michael Fassbender is a grizzled cowboy fighting bounty hunters in action-packed trailer for Slow West

DAILY MAIL
By ROSS MCDONAGH FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

Wild: Michael Fassbender (left) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (right) take on the American Frontier in the new trailer for Slow West

He's made a name for himself as a chameleon onscreen.

And for Michael Fassbender's next transformation he plays a grizzled cowboy who is more than willing to shed his share of blood in the first trailer for Slow West.

The film tells the story of a 16-year-old boy travelling from 19th century Scotland to the wild west in search of his young love.

The trailer introduces Jay Cavendish, played by The Road star Kodi Smit-McPhee, and his girlfriend Rose Ross, played by newcomer Caren Pistorius, looking very well-to-do and very much in love as they frolic in the Highlands.

'Once upon a a time, Jay Cavendish traveled from the cold shoulder of Scotland to the baking heart of America to find his love,' Fassbender's voice growls. 'A jackrabbit in a den of wolves.'

We are then whisked to a desolate turn of the century American Frontier, where the boy looks very out of place as he stammers and tries to explain his presence to a gang of bandits.

Brotherhood: Fassbender and Smit-McPhee will reunite next year in X-Men: Apocalypse, as Magneto and Nightcrawler, respectively

The lead outlaw is about read him his last rights when he drops dead mid-sentence... to reveal a masked Michael Fassbender with a smoking gun, and we know the 37-year-old Irish German has nailed the role of Silas Selleck before the audience even sees his face.

'Keep heading west solo, you’ll be dead by dawn,' he tells the stunned Smit-McPhee. 'I can take care of myself,' he replies.

'Sure kid,' Silas tells him. 'You need chaperoning. Let’s drift.'

The beautifully shot scenes also introduce us to Payne, the fur coat wearing bounty hunter villain, played by Ben Mendelsohn.

Michael Fassbender sightings in Bay Area as Steve Jobs shoot carries on, seeks extras

SF GATE
By Kimberly Chun on February 18, 2015 8:52 AM

OK, who cares if Michael Fassbender looks nothing like Steve Jobs? Hotness feelers are out and tingling in anticipation of stumbling into the star in black turtleneck guise as shooting of “Steve Jobs,” the Aaron Sorkin-penned, Danny Boyle-directed biopic based on the 2011 Walter Isaacson biography, continues around the Bay Area. Yes, this is cinematic reboot at the center of the hacked Sony email upchuck/uproar that embarrassingly saw Sorkin allegedly griping to Sony/Columbia Pictures chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin, “I don’t know who Michael Fassbender is and the rest of the world isn’t going to care.”

Sorkin later came around, writing that Fassbender is “a great actor whose time has come.” Understandable since the actor has proven himself fully capable of heating up the shadows and turning on the nuance when it comes the most troubled or villainous characters, from “Shame”‘s sex addict to the “X-Men” franchise’s Magneto to “12 Years a Slave”‘s rapey plantation owner.

So Fassbender fans have been getting dreamy about running into the hunk as he hunkers down to chomp broccoli amid the crunchy, high-’70s hippie coziness of La Med in Berkeley, holes up in the garage of Jobs’ childhood home in Los Altos, strolls the bland office parks of Silicon Valley, or maybe even introduces a benighted NeXT product or two at Davies Symphony Hall. This week yielded a blurry yeti-like sighting at a SF cafe — though that grainy backside could belong to any ole “toothy-smiled Irish/German sex god” (as the F— Yeah, Michael Fassbender! Tumblr puts it).

James McAvoy is magnetic in caustic class comedy

Serena Evans as Lady Claire, James McAvoy as Jack and Kathryn Drysdale as Grace in The Ruling Class
Serena Evans as Lady Claire, James McAvoy as Jack and Kathryn Drysdale as Grace

Originally penned in an era between the Profumo and Jellicoe political scandals, Peter Barnes's The Ruling Class is a caustic, uncompromising and deeply underrated character study. Anyone who may have feared that its notions of rigid hierarchy, polite expectation, jumped-up patriotism and reactionary politics would be outdated in the 21st century need not worry.

Trafalgar Transformed's artistic director Jamie Lloyd has reunited with James McAvoy for The Ruling Class following their successful reinterpretation of Macbeth at Trafalgar Studios in early 2013, and McAvoy's troubled Jack - who becomes the 14th Earl of Gurney after his father dies in an unusual accident - is a supremely skilled orator.

Diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, the 14th Earl believes he is another kind of Lord entirely, returning to the family seat after seven years away proclaiming himself to be the resurrection and the life. Jack argues his case with the skill and duplicity - deliberate or otherwise - of a politician on the Radio 4 Today program, most notably when he's trying to convince his family that his fictional wife actually exists in a bid to avoid being married off.

McAvoy clearly relishes the opportunity to work with a surreal script packed with puns, innuendo and intricate wordplay, and his silver-tongued delivery and performance oozes with the kind of easy charm that these days wins votes and election to the seat of power. He breaks the fourth wall at regular intervals with a glint in his eye, at one point quipping: "What a lovely crowd. God bless you."

Mental illness doesn't care for class or background or breeding, and for all of the mania so skilfully and physically portrayed by McAvoy, it's the quieter moments that leave the greatest impact.

When Jack laments that his greatest regret is his "many wasted years", it's sentiment that may well resonate with many who have experienced the black dog's indiscriminate grip first-hand. The 14th Earl's quiet crisis at the end of the first act as all his safety mechanisms collapse around him, his responsibilities as a husband and father really hit home, and the brutal, real world around him reveals itself, is utterly chilling. You can't help but feel for him in that moment.

Elsewhere Joshua McGuire - recently seen as John Ruskin in Mike Leigh's Mr Turner - is note-perfect as simpering, snivelling, self-serving Conservative politician Dinsdale, Jack's cousin, while Anthony O'Donnell (as communist Gurney family butler Daniel Tucker) and Elliot Levey (Jack's psychiatrist Dr Herder) also turn in magnificent performances.

James McAvoy & Mark Ruffalo Ride Unicycles on The Graham Norton Show, Impress Meryl Streep—Watch the Video!

The Hulk and Professor Xavier, you have impressed the queen!

In a joint appearance on the BBC's The Graham Norton Show that aired on Friday, Meryl Streep, aka the luckiest woman ever, got to not only share a sofa with Mark Ruffalo, who plays the green superhero in The Avengers series, and X-Men actor James McAvoy, but also watch them from a prime seat as they entertained her, and the world, by riding unicycles. The Oscar-winning actress appeared astonished, and maybe a little, well, freaked out...especially when the latter star took a spill onstage.

McAvoy is set to star in a revival of the British comedy play The Ruling Class in London's West End, starting on Jan. 16. The Scottish star said on The Graham Norton Show that his character has to ride a unicycle on stage. Host Graham Norton talked about how Ruffalo, who stars in the new movie Foxcatcher, had demonstrated his unicycle-riding skills during a previous appearance on the program in 2014.

"How do you know how to do that?" Streep asked Ruffalo.

"I wanted to be a clown," the actor replied. "That was my dream."

Anthony Hopkins, Ian McKellen team for Starz movie 'The Dresser'

HOPKINS-MCKELLEN.jpg

Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen will team together for the first time in Starz’s adaptation of Ronald Harwood’s classic play The Dresser, the network announced at the Television Critics Association’s winter TV previews.

Based on Harwood’s own experiences as a dresser for the distinguished British actor Sir Donald Wolfit, the movie is set against the backdrop of World War II. Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Thor) will portray Sir, while McKellen (Lord of the Rings, X-Men) will play his dresser, Norman.

“The Dresser is a timeless and poignant story about the relationship between artists, and to have this classic play brought to life on-screen by such acting giants as Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen is thrilling,” says Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik. “We are glad to be working in partnership again with the BBC and Colin Callender on this very special project, and to be establishing a relationship with acclaimed theater producer Sonia Friedman.”

Movie review: Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy make 'Rigby' a worthy trip

EL PASO TIMES
By Jocelyn Noveck
The Associated Press
POSTED:   01/02/2015 12:00:00 AM MST

NEW YORK >> All the lonely people. Where do they all belong?

You won't hear that line in "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them" (more on that title in a moment), a highly absorbing if unwieldy film starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy as a couple struggling to cope — apart and together — with tragedy.

In fact, you don't hear any of that famous Beatles song. But it doesn't matter, because you'll probably be hearing it in your head. It's also an apt 12-word summary of the broader life issues the movie addresses. We're all alone, essentially, no matter how close we grow to others. We're born alone, we die alone, and in between, we cope alone. No one can cope for us.

Not that "Eleanor," written and directed by Ned Benson in his debut feature, is a total downer of a movie. It can't be, with the luminous Chastain and the appealing McAvoy heading an almost ridiculously high-quality cast. "Eleanor" is about messiness, and risk — in life and in love. But it's not all sad.

A word about the format, for those coming in cold: "Eleanor" was originally made as a pair of movies, "Her" and "Him," each a full-length film from the point of view of one character, and made to be seen in either order.

Then the Weinstein Company decided to make "Them," a more conventional approach, edited from the other two. Some who saw the first versions at festivals have objected that much has been lost. But the rest of us need to judge "Them" on its own merits. And it's an engrossing film.

Chastain plays Eleanor — yes, last name Rigby — an anthropology student who never finished her thesis. McAvoy plays Conor, a young bar owner. We meet them as they're discovering the intoxication of first love. It is indeed intoxicating; Chastain and McAvoy have a lovely chemistry.

Cut to an indeterminate time later. Eleanor is pale and troubled. We see her take a desperate act; we don't know why.

The film then follows both Eleanor's route to recovery (we're being intentionally vague here), and Conor's efforts to track her down. We learn that the two are married, and have suffered a grave setback.

Either Conor or Eleanor is onscreen at all times. Occasionally, they're together. These scenes are what we wait for: They often crackle with conflicted emotion, and, in one case, deep, unforgettable heartbreak. Chastain's Eleanor is nervous, flitty, on edge, but every so often her smile breaks the melancholy, and it boy, delivers. This movie only cements Chastain's status as one of the most compelling actors of her generation. It's hard to look away from her. And why would you?

Perhaps this enhances McAvoy's performance, for Conor can't look away from Eleanor, either. He's possessed by love, but also frustrated and mystified by it. Kudos to the Scottish actor, first for his flawless American accent, and second for finding a way to so deftly command his own space onscreen, alongside a fiery presence like Chastain's.

Jennifer Lawrence Will Romance Michael Fassbender in the Next X-Men Movie

VANITY FAIR HOLLYWOOD
BY KATEY RICH
NOVEMBER 14, 2014 11:41 AM

BOTH © 20TH CENTURY FOX FILM CORP./EVERETT COLLECTION.

Winning an Oscar and being part of two mega-franchises at the same time isn’t easy, even for the seemingly super-human Jennifer Lawrence. Though she remains front and center of the Hunger Games franchise, Lawrence’s role as Mystique in the new X-Men films is more of a supporting part, and in last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past Mystique played a crucial but relatively small role, seemingly allowing Lawrence to take a step back (or rush off to another set).

That won’t happen with the next X-Men adventure, it seems. In an article documenting just how busy Lawrence will be in the next few months, The Hollywood Reporter says that X-Men: Apocalypse is “being crafted” around Lawrence’s Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, including a romance between the two of them. Sparks have flown between the characters since the first film, and the last one featured a memorable, intimate conversation between them in a cramped phone booth, so it makes sense for these two crazy mutants to take things to the next level.

Michael Fassbender displays muscular arms during day out with blonde companion

Personal or business? Michael Fassbender showed off his muscular arms as he joined a female friend in New York's Soho neighbourhood on Friday

Michael Fassbender's Bono-inspired look worked so well for him on Thursday, he nearly repeated it on Friday.

Yet, this time, the 37-year-old actor was joined by a blonde companion, as he stepped out in front of a hotel in New York's Soho neighbourhood.

The pair were quite chummy, even giving each other a sweet embrace before parting ways.

While soaking up the sun, the scruffy-faced Inglourious Basterds star covered his eyes with rose-coloured sunglasses, seeming to take style tips from the famous U2 singer.

Meanwhile, Michael put his toned arms on display in a grey polo T-shirt which he paired with slim dark denim jeans.

And on his feet, the Irish actor donned soft grey lace-up shoes.

Michael Fassbender’s movie magic is award-worthy

LARNE TIMES

Larne man Mike Collins with his famous nephew, actor Michael Fassbender. INLT-23-714-con

Michael Fassbender’s Larne uncle says it is only a matter of time before his famous nephew wins a major award.

Speaking exclusively to The Times the day after he saw his nephew star as Magneto in the new Xmen movie Days of Future Past, local man Mike Collins stated: “I took my son to see Xmen last night.

“To be honest, I’m not a big Xmen fan, but the movie I saw last night was brilliant.”

The most recent installation in the Xmen blockbuster franchise sees Xmen characters from the past and present unite to fight for the survival of their species.

Michael and his parents

Michael Fassbender has a special link to Larne, as his mother Adele is from the area and he regularly visited his grandparents at the town’s Wellington Parade during his childhood.

Michael was born in Germany, his father’s native land, before his family moved to Kilarney.

His uncle Mike recalled: “Michael would have been here on numerous occasions – Christmas, family get togethers.

“The last time he was in Larne would have been four years ago for my wedding reception at Ballygally castle.

Michael and his dad

“He always wanted to be an actor, since he was very young – since primary and secondary school he was always involved in some form of acting and drama.

“He was also a bit of a musician and played everything, including the guitar, which he still plays.”

Mike says that the family is very proud of their famous son, who worked ‘very, very hard‘ to make it in Hollywood.

He continued: “I thought he was brilliant in 12 Years A Slave and in Hunger.

“He has had some brilliant roles, but 12 Years A Slave is probably my favourite.

Watch James McAvoy And Michael Fassbender's 'X-Men' Impressions (Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen)

ET CANADA
By DAVID HUMPHREYS
6/2/2014 at 5:07 PM ET

In order to play Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender had to study old footage of Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, who play the older versions of the two characters.

As the below video demonstrates, they perhaps studied the footage a little too closely. Asked by Stewart and McKellen to share their impressions, Fassbender says "Three days as the crow flies" in a pitch perfect Gandalf voice, then launches into a word for word recreation of a speech that McKellen delivered in front of the Royal Shakespeare Company about Macbeth in 1979. McAvoy, meanwhile, says "Logan, haven't you got a lesson to teach?" in a way that makes Stewart slap his knee in disbelief.

It's easy to see why McAvoy and Fassbender decided to only loosely channel Stewart and McKellen in the film rather than do the exact imitation you see in the video. Had they taken the latter approach, Days of Future Past would have been an early contender for funniest movie of the year.

James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart each shared their thoughts on the other actor, with McAvoy revealing that he initially shaved his head when he learned he would be playing the younger version of Stewart's character.

"I had showed up on the first day of X-Men: First Class, and I had shaved my head because I wanted to check what it looked like about a month before we started shooting -- and it looked quite good -- and they were like, 'No, no, no, no, we want you to have long hair.' "
