“Sherlock” fans, do you think Benedict Cumberbatch deserves to win a second Emmy Award for playing genius detective Sherlock Holmes on the PBS program? Now that we know “Sherlock: The Lying Detective” is Cumberbatch’s official Emmy 2017 submission should he receive a nomination, is his performance good enough to win a bookend trophy following his jaw-dropping 2014 victory for “Sherlock: His Last Vow”? Vote in our poll below.
As in years past, “Sherlock” is once again trying its luck in the race for Best TV Movie by submitting only one of its three telefilms for Emmy consideration. The network feels confident that “The Lying Detective” is their potential winner this year — that’s the second installment from Season 4 that aired January 8. The case is a twisty one, as Sherlock is contacted by the daughter of an entrepreneur who she claims has confessed to murder, only she can’t remember the specific details because her father wiped her memory.
Joining Cumberbatch’s Sherlock as usual is Martin Freeman as supporting sidekick John Watson. Freeman also won an Emmy in 2014 for “Sherlock,” though awards pundits theorize he may have earned a few extra votes thanks to his starring role in “Fargo” that same year. The other eligible supporting cast members for the movie/miniseries Emmy races are Toby Jones as Culverton Smith, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft Holmes, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, and Sian Brooke as Elizabeth.
Last year “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” earned six nominations and went on to become the first installment to win the Emmy for Best TV Movie. Besides Cumberbatch’s Emmy victory in 2014, his other major claim to fame in the awards spotlight was when he earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for “The Imitation Game” (2014).

Sean Bean rides tiny red chopper while being chased by a dinosaur as he films latest movie in Kent

If you were being chased by a terrifying tyrannosaurus, a small red bicycle wouldn't be many peoples first choice of transport.
However, that is exactly what Sean Bean was riding as he filmed scenes for his latest blockbuster in the Kent countryside.
The actor looked remarkably cool despite his sticky situation, and instead appeared to be enjoying spending time on the vintage chopper.
The 54-year-old was wearing a loose-fitting shirt, brown trousers and brown, leather boots for the scene.
The Lord of the Rings star is having a successful year after leading Britain in the nominations for the 2013 International Emmy Awards.
He has received two nominations for his role as a cross-dresser in TV show Accused, which also saw its creator Jimmy McGovern shortlisted for best drama series.

MICHELLE DOCKERY
Nominated for: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Role: Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey

It's also the second time Michelle Dockery has received an Emmy nomination for her role as Lady Mary – last year she lost out to Claire Danes from Homeland in the best actress category.
Dockery will be up against Danes again this year, although with Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Jim Carter and Julian Fellowes all nominated, there will definitely be safety in numbers for the Downton nominees.

DAME HELEN MIRREN
Nominated for: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini series or Movie

Her first nomination came in 1994 for her role as DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect; Mirren's won four awards since, the last coming in 2007 for (yes, again) Prime Suspect. Is current British export sensation Downton Abbey on the way to achieving that kind of longevity?

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH
Nominated for: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini Series or Movie
Role: Christopher Tietjens in Parade’s End
This is the second time the Sherlock actor has been nominated for an Emmy Award. The first was last year when he received a nomination for playing Sherlock Holmes, but lost out to Kevin Costner for his leading role as William ‘Devil Anse’ Hatfield in Hatfields & McCoys.
This year he’s up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini Series for playing Christopher Tietjens in Parade’s End. When he heard of his nomination, Cumberbatch paid tribute to writer Tom Stoppard who adapted the novel by Ford Madox Ford.
“I was so honoured to work on Parade’s End, to get the chance to get under the skin of such a complex, beautifully written character as Tietjens with a script written by the unsurpassable Sir Tom Stoppard,” he said.

Downton Abbey meets Breaking Bad! Hugh Bonneville and Lesley Nicol at pre-Emmy party

Period drama met period tables on Thursday night as the casts of Downton Abbey and Breaking Bad rubbed shoulders at a pre-Emmy party.
Hugh Bonneville and Lesly Nicol from the ITV series attended, as did actor Dean Norris with George Mastras, the writer of the AMC show.
But with big smiles on their face, the Downton crew and Breaking Bad buddies would be leaving the drama at home for an evening to celebrate their nominations at this year's awards show.
They were no doubt there to support Julian Fellowes, as the party was hosted by The Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences' to celebrate specifically the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards Writer Nominees, which also included Mastras.
To get a win for Breaking Bad would be the cherry on the cake for the American writer, having penned the final series currently on air now.

Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery is a single lady again after splitting from Holby City star Joseph Millson By DAILY MAIL REPORTER PUBLISHED: 20:01 EST, 20 October 2012 (MAIL ON LINE)
Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery has ended her five month relationship to Holby City actor Joseph Millson.
The 30-year-old actress, who plays Lady Mary in the hugely popular show, began dating Joseph earlier this year - and it seemed their relationship was getting stronger by the day.
Last month he accompanied her to Los Angeles for the Emmy Awards, where she was nominated for best dramatic actress.
However, she is said to have dumped the actor, and the 38-year-old is believed to be heartbroken over the split.
A friend of Joseph told The Sunday Mirror: 'He’s heartbroken. The split was unexpected and it’s still very raw for him. Joseph’s a really down-to-earth guy. He’s understandably upset.'
Joseph has recently posted a series of downbeat tweets, including: 'Just wait for someone worth being in a relationship with, stop wasting your time on the ones who don’t deserve you.'

Downton Abbey: Dowager Countess overheard at 2012 Emmys – “What is an EMMY?” BY BILL YOUNG ⋅ SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 ⋅(TELLY SPOTTING)
There was a definite British Invasion at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards with nominations in numerous categories for Downton Abbey, Sherlock and Luther. Having moved this year from the Drama Series category instead of the Miniseries/Movie category, Downton Abbey picked up sixteen total nominations while the brilliant Sherlock received 13 nominations.
Unfortunately, 2012 will forever be remembered as the year of ‘it was an honor to be nominated’ for the British television nominees at the 64th Emmy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles Sunday evening. While I haven’t seen all the entries in all the categories this year, without sounding bitter, I find it difficult to understand how Sherlock was shut out across the board both in front of and behind the camera. Full disclosure…I haven’t seen Game Change, but it better be good to best both Sherlock and Luther for the best Miniseries/Movie Emmy. And, since I flat out refused to see Hatfields & McCoys all I can say is ‘Really?’ when thinking about the notion that it was Kevin Costner over Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Idris Elba (Luther) for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie category.
