COLIN FIRTH: Mr Darcy statue built in Serpentine (CAMBRIDGE NEWS)

Mr Darcy statue built in Serpentine

Colin Firth's eye-popping lake scene from Pride And Prejudice has been brought to life once again - with a giant statue positioned in a well-known lake.

The fibreglass sculpture of the actor's head and torso stretches 12ft out of the water at The Serpentine in London's Hyde Park.

It has been built to celebrate the launch of new TV channel Drama after topping a poll last week to find the the most memorable moment in British TV drama.

The scene featured in a 1995 BBC adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, which was published 200 years ago. The image of Firth emerging dripping wet from the lake at Lyme Park in Cheshire caused a stir and turned the actor into a sex symbol.

Hyde Park was a fashionable place to promenade in the early 1800s - and for decades afterwards - with Austen strolling there on a regular basis.

The model of the star took a team of three sculptors in excess of two months to design, construct and paint.

Lead sculptor Toby Crowther said: "The challenge for us was capturing the spirit of Darcy as handsome and noble but also aloof and proud. The Mr Darcy sculpture is a real mix of the many portrayals of Jane Austen's most famous hero."

Adele: ‘Rolling’ with the Stones?!?! BY SEAN BORG (BRITISH WEEKLY)

ADELE

I hear the Rolling Stones are planning to pull in a string of top female vocalists for their July 6 show in London’s Hyde Park with superstar singer Adele at the top of Mick Jagger’s wish list.

A source said the wheels are in motion to make Adele the big-name guest on the bill – if she can be persuaded to appear.

The source said: “The Stones would love to get Adele on with them. It would be a massive coup, even for them, because she’s been a bit reclusive since her son Angelo James was born.

“She is the name they want to announce as their special guest – and their invite should be special enough to get her out on stage.

“At the minute it’s 50/50 that she’ll do it, but Mick is quietly confident he can pull it off. They want to make the Hyde Park shows a highlight of their tour, and her appearing would make it really special.”

Bruce Springsteen And Paul McCartney Get Shut Down At Concert (VIDEO) Posted: 07/16/2012 3:47 pm Updated: 07/16/2012 9:36 pm (HUFF POST)

Concertgoers were in for quite the surprise when Bruce Springsteen brought Sir Paul McCartney on stage during his finale in London’s Hyde Park. The legendary rockers performed several Beatles hits together, but their performance was cut short when concert organizers suddenly pulled the plug.

What gives? Apparently Springsteen was three hours into his performance before McCartney joined him on stage. The pair was shut down when they exceeded the noise curfew previously set in place and after authorities received complaints from a neighboring community.

London mayor Boris Johnson commented on the situation, saying, "If they had called me, my answer would have been to jam on in the name of the Lord!"

Bruce Springsteen mocks London 'sound police' and shows who's boss at RDS (BELFAST TELEGRAPH)

Bruce Springsteen has opened his Dublin gig by mocking authorities in London who brought the curtain down early during his Hyde Park concert.

Coming on stage at 7.25pm, he stood with guitarist Steve Van Zandt in front of a huge power switch and told the crowd of 35,000 in the RDS: "Before we were so rudely interrupted . . ."

It was fitting that his opening tune was 'Twist And Shout', the same Beatles song which he was performing with Paul McCartney when the plug was pulled at Hyde Park by the UK authorities.

There was more fun made with the incident by his choice of second song, the Bobby Fuller Four track made famous by The Clash, 'I Fought The Law', whose thrashing by the E Street Band prompted Springsteen to remark: "That will teach them".

It wasn't long before Dublin City Council chiefs were the next target. Springsteen and his band were fined an estimated ?50,000 for breaching a curfew by 15 minutes at the RDS with their first concert and 19 minutes at their second gig in July 2009.

"We're not sure when the curfew is tonight. Do you really have curfews in Ireland?" he said of the 11pm cut-off point agreed between promoters and Dublin City Council Planning.

But curfews were forgotten as he began to hit his stride.
