Single Ladies, Don’t Despair on Valentine’s Day 2019! From Rochester to Darcy, Here Are Hot Literary Heroes to Lust Over

It’s Valentine’s Day 2019. Honestly, do you really need this intimation from us? Nope. Look around you, everyone is gripped by Valentine’s Day fever. Markets are flooded with greeting cards, flower bouquets and soft toys. People are buying roses and heart-shaped balloons for their loved ones.

And if you’re single and feeling depressed by this ‘love is in the air’ atmosphere, it’s totally okay. It’s not your fault. But all said and done, I cannot let you beautiful single ladies aka my virtual gal pals feel miserable the entire day. It’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the most desirable men alive. I am taking you on a joyride where you are going to meet the hottest characters ever in books (yes, books) who will set your heart on fire. Happy Galentine's as well as Valentine’s Day!!

Edward Rochester

Does not boast of a handsome face. Has a crazy wife locked up in his mansion’s attic. He is also moody, arrogant, cynical and jaded. That’s Charlotte Brontë’s hero (read: anti-hero) from Jane Eyre – Edward Rochester. Despite a long list of shortcomings, Mr Rochester sweeps the novel’s young heroine, Jane (as well as readers) off her feet. The brooding, difficult and secretive master of Thornfield Hall is not your ideal man. In fact, this Byronic hero is far from perfect. But despite all odds, you cannot stop from falling in love with him. Watch this "There Is No Debt" clip from 2011 movie Jane Eyre based on Bronte’s novel. It starred the very talented Michael Fassbender as Mr Rochester and wonderful Mia Wasikowska as Jane.

Fitzwilliam Darcy or Mr Darcy
Is it just me or has everyone been in search of their Mr Darcy (full name: Fitzwilliam Darcy)? The hero of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is your quintessential archetype of the aloof romantic hero. His pride makes the novel’s protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet outrightly reject his marriage proposal, and she declares him to be ‘the last man in the world’ she could ever be prevailed upon to marry! Ouch. Despite his pride and her prejudice, they continue to be drawn to each other. Jane Austen’s most favourite work has been adapted on many occasions, and you can relive Elizabeth and Mr Darcy’s chemistry with this short clip from 2005-film Pride and Prejudice. It starred Keira Knightley Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Here's a clip from Pride and Prejudice:

To Walk Invisible The Brontë Sisters (MASTERPIECE)

MASTERPIECE
Airing 3/26/2017 @ 9:00 PM
Preview: 0:30 | TV-14 | CC

Ever since they were revealed to the world as quaint country-women, the Brontë sisters have fascinated legions of devoted readers. MASTERPIECE brings these remarkable literary geniuses to life with a beautifully filmed and acted two-hour drama, To Walk Invisible The Brontë Sisters.

Written and directed by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax), To Walk Invisible depicts the evolution of secluded, dutiful clergyman’s daughters into authors of the most controversial fiction of the 1840s. The drama stars Finn Atkins (Eden Lake) as Charlotte, who shocked society with her edgy epic, Jane Eyre; Chloe Pirrie (War and Peace) as Emily, author of the darkly gothic and disturbing Wuthering Heights; and Charlie Murphy (Happy Valley) as Anne, whose penned the true-to-life love story The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Also starring are Jonathan Pryce (Wolf Hall) as their distracted father, Reverend Patrick Brontë; and Adam Nagaitis as the sisters’ only brother, Branwell, whose wild and dissipated life contributed to vivid characters in each of their novels.

Toby Stephens: 'British scripts often make my heart sink'

BBC
By Tim Masters
Entertainment correspondent, BBC News

Toby Stephens in The Machine

He's been a Bond villain and his latest film has been compared to Blade Runner. So why does Toby Stephens think British screenwriters need to up their game?

Toby Stephens has some strong words to say about the British film industry.

"Generally, when I get sent British scripts - and this isn't a generalisation - nine times out of 10 my heart sinks after about three pages," Stephens says when we meet at Bafta in London to discuss his latest project.

The stage and screen actor, son of Dame Maggie Smith, stars in a new British sci-fi thriller The Machine, out this week, playing a scientist working on a top secret artificial intelligence project.

Directed by Caradog James, the film won the Raindance award at the British Independent Film Awards in December.

The story is set in a future Britain gripped by recession and locked in a Cold War with China.

Ministry of Defence scientist Vincent McCarthy (Stephens) is tasked with creating a super-intelligent android, but has his own personal agenda - to use the new technology to help his sick daughter.

The cast also includes Denis Lawson as McCarthy's militaristic boss and Caity Lotz as Ava, an artificial intelligence expert.

"This script came through and it blew me away. It's not about football violence, it's not about gangsters, it's not about some depressing estate," says Stephens.

"It's a no-budget sci-fi movie dealing with really interesting ideas about where we're headed. We will one day create a machine with something akin to human consciousness.

"When we do how are we going to treat them, and how are they going to treat us - and what does it mean for us as a species?

"I loved the idea - it had echoes of not just Blade Runner but also Frankenstein and Metropolis."

Reviews have picked up on The Machine's Blade Runner homages such as its Q&A tests to weed out android imposters and its Vangelis-like score.

"I remember going to the cinema to watch Blade Runner when I was 14 or 15," recalls Stephens.

"It was a huge flop when it came out. The cinema was almost empty. I was blown away by it. I liked that kind of sci-fi: 2001, Alien, Blade Runner, Silent Running - you could kind of believe them. I don't like total escapism."

An experienced theatre actor, Stephens' first feature film role was Othello in Sally Potter's Orlando, opposite Tilda Swinton in 1992.

He appeared in Trevor Nunn's film version of Twelfth Night (1996), and played the lead in 1997 romantic fantasy Photographing Fairies.

But Stephens' most widely known screen role is that of that of Bond baddie Gustav Graves in Die another Day, appearing alongside Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Rosamund Pike.

He has also played the part of James Bond in several radio adaptations of the Ian Fleming novels for BBC Radio 4.

The Machine marks the 44-year-old actor's first foray into movie science fiction.

"It's a weird hybrid," he says. "It's like an arthouse but it's also a sci-fi film. It was also seemingly ridiculously ambitious. It had no budget. It was a bit of a punt really."

British Director Steve McQueen talks about the ‘magic’ of actor Michael Fassbender, the impact of slavery on his own family and Oscar campaigning

Actor Michael Fassbender has a strange kind of magic about him, says Director Steve McQueen that leaves people in tears when he finishes a scene.

The director was speaking on The Green Room following the London Premiere of his new film 12 Years A Slave.

It is the third time the Irish-German actor and director have collaborated on film (previous films include Hunger and Shame) and it’s a relationship McQueen values highly.

“I value our relationship more than a lot of things about life, I value it tremendously. He’s an artist, an amazing artist. He’s a force to be reckoned with.”

Murmurings of Oscar nominations are already in the air, although Fassbender who was Oscar nominated for his performance in McQueen’s earlier film Shame, says he won’t be playing the Oscar game this time around.

Steve McQueen agrees with Fassbender’s stance saying he doesn't plan to campaign for the Oscars either.

“I’m not campaigning. Michael’s campaign is on screen. That’s Michael Fassbender’s Oscar Campaign. There’s nothing much more to say. He’s done his thing, that’s it.”

Listen here for the full interview with Director Steve McQueen and Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor on The Green Room with Orla Barry

Toby Stephens, actor – portrait of the artist (GUARDIAN) Interview by Laura Barnett The Guardian

Toby Stephens Toby Stephens. Photograph: Sarah Lee for the Guardian

Your parents [Maggie Smith and Robert Stephens] were both famous actors. Was following in their footsteps inevitable?

No, my parents didn't particularly encourage me initially. They knew how hard the profession is: just because they'd been successful didn't mean I would be. They weren't like, "I tell you what, why don't we all do a production together?" They said, "You're on your own." I'm really grateful: it made me get out there and hone my taste.

What was your big breakthrough?

Playing Coriolanus at the RSC. I was about 25, and the play had never been done there before with anybody of that age. It got rid of everybody's preconceptions about Coriolanus being a 50-year-old fascist dressed in leather who likes beating people up.

Do you suffer for your art?

No. First and foremost, it's a way of putting bread on the table.

Have you ever felt typecast?

Yes: until a few years ago, I was endlessly playing villainous, smug, posh guys on telly, because I'd played a Bond villain [in Die Another Day]. I've only managed to break out of it in the last three years – I changed my agent, and got a break in America with this pirate thing [new TV series Black Sails].

Stage or screen?
Whenever I'm doing stage I want to be doing screen, and vice versa. Screen is satisfying because it's so technical and mysterious. It's like playing roulette: you get a script, you think it's either great or naff, but you have no idea how it will really turn out. On stage, you are your own editor – and you get brief moments of grace, where suddenly you feel free.

What work of art would you most like to own?

William Blake's The Ghost of a Flea. It's both creepy and magical

The Borgias' Holliday Grainger Will Ridicule Cinderella In Kenneth Branagh's Adaptation Author: Nick Venable (CINEMA BLEND)

The Borgias' Holliday Grainger Will Ridicule Cinderella In Kenneth Branagh's Adaptation image

Kenneth) Branagh already has a strong cast lined up for Cinderella, with Downton Abbey’s Lily James in the lead role and Robert Madden as her Prince Charming. As a stepsister, Grainger would be playing the daughter of Cate Blanchett, who will star as the wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine. Something tells me someone equally beautiful is going to nab the other sisterly role. Call me crazy.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Cinderella turned into a period piece, since it seems like Grainger has become the new Keira Knightley in that respect. She currently stars in the 15th century-set, soon-to-wrap-up Showtime drama The Borgias, and will soon star as Bonnie Parker in Lifetime’s upcoming miniseries Bonnie and Clyde. In the past two years, she’s starred in Cary Fukunaga’s Jane Eyre, Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod’s Bel Ami, Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina and Mike Newell’s Great Expectations. I wonder if she’ll ever appear in a movie with a cellphone in it.

Michael Fassbender: Assassin's Creed movie gets a release date of May 22, 2015. Reported by Mike E on Sunday, May 19 2013 2:35 am

20th Century Fox has officially scheduled a released date for the Assassin’s Creed movie. Box Office Mojo is reporting that the movie being produced by New Regency is slated to release on May 22, 2015. You might find some good news and bad news in the distant release date: the bad news being that it’s far away, and the good news being that they might take the extra time to create a better movie.

Speaking of the quality, it definitely has a nice name attached to it.  The always popular Michael Fassbender is producing and starring in the movie himself. The script will be written by Michael Lesslie, who according to his imdb page doesn’t seem to have many works that we can judge him off of just yet.

Regardless, it’s nice to see that there is an actual release date for this thing; now we just have to exercise our patience. I’m sure that’s something gamers are good at.

Michael Fassbender to take on MacBeth for director Justin Kurzel April 29, 2013 | Written By: Brad Sturdivant (FLIX 66)

I think every talented actor has to do a Shakespeare movie at some point in their career as a sort of right of passage.  Given that Michael Fassbender is one of the more talented actors working today, it makes perfect sense that he’d tackle Shakespeare and so he’s looking to sign on to star in SNOWTOWN director Justin Kurzel’s take on MACBETH.

Although this version will be spoken in the original language and will take place in the 11th century (like the original play), Kurzel promises a more visceral telling and plenty of epic battle scenes.

Michael Fassbender: SHAME trailer (a great movie!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=24cjqfVv1fs#!

SHAME was a great film, not at all what I was expecting.  Rather it was heartbreaking and Michael Fassbender should have been nominated for an Oscar portraying this man's desperate struggle.

Michael Fassbender shocked the cast of British sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short’ by arriving on set to watch his close pal Val Kilmer film a cameo appearance.

Michael Fassbender visited the ‘Life’s Too Short’ set.

The Hollywood actor has been hanging out behind the scenes of Warwick Davis, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC Two sitcom after being invited by Val Kilmer, who has a cameo role on the show’s last episode.

A source told DigitalSpy: “Fassbender and Kilmer were just hanging out with everyone on set and really enjoying themselves.

“It was amazing to see these Hollywood stars on the same set as the show’s British TV stars like Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson.”

Val reportedly asked producers whether he could bring a friend along and the cast and crew were gobsmacked when the high profile ‘Shame’ actor turned up.
