Colin Firth has expressed his shame for not doing more when a British actor he worked with told him of “a distressing encounter” with Harvey Weinstein in a hotel room more than 25 years ago.
He spoke out after Sophie Dix, who starred with him in one of the first cinema movies he made, went public with details of an alleged sexual assault involving Weinstein.
“She told me she had had a distressing encounter with Harvey Weinstein,” Firth told the Guardian. “I don’t think she went into all the horrific detail I’ve read in her interview. But I remember her being profoundly upset by it. To my shame, I merely expressed sympathy.
“I didn’t act on what she told me,” he went on. “It was a long time ago and I don’t know if she remembers telling me, but the fact that I had that conversation has come back to haunt me in the light of these revelations. It’s the only direct account of this kind of behaviour by Harvey Weinstein that’s ever been told to me.”

Actor Colin Firth gets dual British-Italian citizenship
BBC
September 23, 2017
British actor Colin Firth has become an Italian citizen, the country's authorities have confirmed.
His wife - film producer Livia Giuggioli - is Italian, making the Oscar-winning Bridget Jones star eligible for citizenship there.
The 56-year-old now has dual citizenship and can therefore keep his British passport.
Firth said he had applied for an Italian passport because of "the uncertainty around".
The actor said that he has been connected to Italy "for more than two decades now".
"I was married there and had two children born in Rome," he added.

Kingsman sequel confirms Colin Firth's return after many teases
EW
JOEY NOLFI@JOEYNOLFI
POSTED ON MARCH 30, 2017 AT 9:58AM EDT
It seems reports of secret agent Harry Hart’s death were indeed greatly exaggerated after all.
After months of teasing and speculation, the new poster for Kingsman: The Golden Circle officially confirms Colin Firth will return to the film series he launched three years ago as the presumably ill-fated operative, who was shot near the tail end of the first installment, The Secret Service, in 2014.
Tweeted Thursday by the film’s official Twitter account, The Golden Circle‘s minimalist poster prominently features the names of several new cast members who’ve boarded the sequel, including Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Elton John, Jeff Bridges, and Channing Tatum. In addition to Firth, the new Kingsman class will appear alongside returning performers Taron Egerton and Mark Strong.

Kingsman sequel to bring back Colin Firth
THE JAKARTA POST
Dian Arthen
Writer

Spoiler alert for those who haven't yet watched the first Kingsman movie. Actor Taron Egerton, who plays Eggsy in the film, recently tweeted a poster photo of the sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, bearing the legend: "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," beneath a pair of glasses with one lens missing.
Egerton later captioned the photo with "A message from an old friend. #Kingsman".
The quote on the poster is of course a reference to Harry Hart (Colin Firth), who was shot in the face by Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) and presumably killed in the first movie, Kingsman: The Secret Service.
No word yet from Firth or director Matthew Vaughn about this update; we guess we'll be kept on tenterhooks until the movie comes out in June next year.

Colin Firth Could Return For The KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE Sequel (SPOILERS)
COMIC BOOK MOVIE
By Mark Cassidy - 2/16/2015

Matthew Vaughn's deliriously entertaining adaptation of Mark Millar's comic is currently performing very well at the Box Office so a sequel is likely. Will Colin Firth's character be back? Click on to find out what the director has to say about that, but beware of major SPOILERS.
Seriously, if you haven't seen the movie yet you are advised not to read any further... okay?
Last chance!
So, after an insane action sequence inside a church sees Colin Firth's Harry Hart dispatch pretty much an entire congregation of religious fanatics (in the most violent ways possible), the disorientated Kingsman agent wanders outside only to be shot in the head by Samuel L. Jackson's hemophobic villain, Valentine. It's a shocker no doubt, but is Hart really dead?
During an interview with USA Today director Matthew Vaughn hints that Firth, at least, might be returning for the planned sequel. “A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment," he revealed. "If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.” Now he only said Colin, not Harry, so is it possible we could see Firth in a different role?

Colin Firth started rumours that he was the next James Bond
ONE NEWS NEW ZEALAND
Published: 12:01PM Saturday January 31, 2015 Source: BANG Showbiz

Colin Firth used to start rumours that he was going to be the next James Bond.
The 54-year-old actor has joked that while he's now too old to take on the iconic role, he doesn't think he was ever in the running, apart from when he tried to spark some speculation himself.
When asked how he feels about never having played the suave spy, he said: "I suppose this has got to be it for me in a way, I suppose. I think it would never have happened. I remember lists being around of speculation ... never from the Bond people, just lists ... in my handwriting."
The star plays secret agent Harry Hart in 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' and he was delighted his role drew comparisons between himself and British sitcom 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' funnyman Frank Spencer because he did his own stunts in the movie.
Speaking on London Live, he added: "That's a huge honour. I remember thinking actually that there was nothing cooler in the world than a courageous, athletic, dynamic man pretending to be a complete klutz and loser. I thought that was absolutely wonderful.
"The fact he was Superman pretending to be Clark Kent effectively."

Colin Firth: Fight scenes were exhilarating!
XPOSE
December 19, 2014

Colin Firth has raved about how much he "loved" filming choreographed physical scenes for Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Colin Firth "misses filming fight scenes terribly".
The 54-year-old actor is known for playing the dignified Englishman in countless films, but broke into the action world in his latest movie, Kingsman: The Secret Service. And shooting the heavily physical scenes with trained professionals was a serious thrill for him.
"To actually become a team with those people was utterly exhilarating and I have to say I missed it terribly," he told Access Hollywood. "Once those scenes were done, to go back to the day job of just sitting around pointing my suit at people and talking... it lacked the exhilaration."
Colin was directed by Matthew Vaughn in the action-spy movie, which was based on comic book The Secret Service. He portrayed Harry Hart, a secret service agent who takes a younger agent into the fray.
(oops wrong movie)
And Colin thoroughly enjoyed his foray into the genre.
"I started to love it!" he gushed. "I started to love the collaboration and the camaraderie, people whose history and whose skills were completely alien to mine."

5 Reasons Matthew Vaughn's 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' Makes Colin Firth An Action Star! [WATCH]
MSTARS
By Jorge Solis (j.solis@mstarsnews.com) | Sep 26, 2014 09:02 PM EDT

Ever since the latest trailer was released, we are more than excited to see Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service. Based on the comic book, The Secret Service, a veteran secret agent takes his stubborn his young protege and trains him in the double-crossing world of espionage.
Here are five reasons why audiences should be excited to see Colin Firth as an action hero in Kingsman: The Secret Service.
5) James Bond
Comic book fans will recognize Mark Millar's name from the gritty and hyper-violent Kick-Ass movies. Though there have been name changes, such as Jack London to Harry Hart, the spirit of the book is still the same. Vaughn is back adapting another one of Millar's books and returning to the genre itself, after X-Men: First Class.
Previous Colin Firth Bar Fight - he's gotten better
3) The Bar Fight
In the trailer, we see Hart (Firth) locking up the doors, just to make sure no one leaves. Hart then takes on the entire gang, using his fists and super-gadgets. As soon as the brawl is over, Hart sits down apologizes and explains he was letting "off some steam."
2) Samuel L. Jackson
In the footage, the Pulp Fiction actor shouts to his sword-legged assassin, "If you get blood on the carpets, you have to take the carpets up!" You want someone to go up against the Oscar-winning The King's Speech actor, this is your guy.

Both the movie and comic are a satire on the spy thriller genre, especially the James Bond movies. Notice how the Pride and Prejudice actor looks pristine in his expensive suits. Though the role asks the English actor to be an action, he also has to bring in his comedic timing.

The New ‘Kingsman’ Trailer: You Wouldn’t Like Colin Firth When He’s Angry
MTV
by john walker 10 hours ago

Not to get all Stefon from “Saturday Night Live,” but the new trailer for “Kingsman: The Secret Service” that premiered during tonight’s episode of “Gotham” has everything.
Explosions? Check. Colin Firth being all scary-sexy-serious? Check. A new song by Iggy Azalea featuring Ellie Goulding? Check. A morbidly practical Samuel L. Jackson warning that “If you get blood on the carpets, you have to take the carpets up!”? Check. Ummmmm, LEGS THAT ARE ALSO SWORDS?! Oh my god, check.

Colin Firth sets heart racing in Drumquinna Mannor, Kenmare
INDEPENDENT
Barry Egan
August 17, 2014

They don't just do weddings in Kerry - they live them. And so it proved at Drumquinna Manor in Kenmare last Saturday at the nuptials for stunning Tonya Meli and her dreamboat beau Gerald Casey.
Not only are they an incredibly trendy duo (the bride is from county Down and is a London-based super-agent to the stars, while the groom is a top businessman who hails from Tipperary), but they are obviously two of the most popular and well-connected Mr and Mrs on the planet.
This I say without fear of contradiction because the guests at the wedding included at least three international superstars - Colin Firth, Hugh Grant and Michelle Rodriguez to say nothing of Naomie Harris, gun-toting MI6 agent in the recent James Bond film Skyfall.
The 200 or so guests' mouths were perhaps falling open when the star of Lost, Michelle Rodriguez, got up at some point and sang Fly Me To The Moon with Shane McGrath's legendary wedding band Harlequin. The wedding band are no strangers to superstar wedding hoolies, of course, having played at David and Victoria Beckham's do in 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle.
It was clearly one of those weddings to remember. But there were two jarring notes. There was no Oliver Callan to send up all the celebrity guests and there was a team from OK! magazine. Apart from those minor glitches, it all sounded like a right Kerry on.

Colin Firth’s ‘Kingsman’ to Battle ‘Fifty Shades’ on Valentine’s Day
VARIETY
Brent Lang
Senior Film and Media Reporter
@BrentALang
Colin Firth at his most buttoned up will jockey with a whip-wielding Christian Grey for moviegoers’ hearts on Valentine’s Day.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” will shift from Oct. 24, 2014 to Feb. 13, 2015, 20th Century Fox said Wednesday. In its new spot, the spy film will go head-to-head with “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
The film, which allows Firth to pack heat along with his stiff upper lip, will theoretically appeal to men, whereas “Grey” and its storyline involving a member of the 1% getting his kink on, is targeting women.
An extended look at “Kingsman” earned a rapturous response from theater owners at CinemaCon. Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine and newcomer Taron Egerton co-star alongside Firth, who, in the footage screened at the annual exhibition trade show, turns an umbrella into a lethal weapon and generally comes across as a bad-ass George Smiley.
In its old release slot, “Kingsman’s” main competition would have come from the big screen version of the board game “Ouija.”
