Surfing safari: Gerard Butler enjoyed a surfing session at Malibu's Leo Carrillo State Beach on Friday

Gerard Butler has caused hearts to palpitate in such films as 300 and Phantom Of The Opera.

The hunky 44-year-old actor put on another kind of show on Friday as he emerged from Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu following a surfing expedition.

Gerard was clad in only a black, blue and grey wet suit while padding barefoot to his sporty white Land Rover that was parked on a remote stretch of Pacific Coast Highway.

His hair was still damp and pushed this way and that, but he didn't seem to mind about his appearance - or the dust obscuring his car windows.

As the face of Hugo Boss' new male fragrance, Butler sported more scruffy facial fuzz than he shows in the glamorous promotional pictures.

The surfing enthusiast fitted his surfboard on top of his vehicle and checked to make sure it was secure.

GERARD BUTLER: 'I DIDN'T SEE MY FATHER FOR 14 YEARS'

Gerard was born in Scotland, but his family relocated to Montreal when he was 6 months old. His parents divorced a year and a half later, and Gerard's mother moved back to Scotland with Gerard and his siblings. Gerard would later ask his mother, "I'm not going to see my dad, am I?" She told him, "No, I don't think so."

But that changed when he was 16: "I came home one night, and my stepfather said, 'Keep your jacket on, you're going into town. Your dad's here,'" Gerard said. "And I had to go into this restaurant and walk around this packed restaurant going from table to table literally looking at men going 'Is that my dad? Is that my dad? Is that my dad?' [Chuckles.] And then he finally stood up and he was the weirdest looking guy in the restaurant."

Gerard left Scotland and "went straight to Toronto [where his father lived] and spent a summer there." He made up for lost time with his dad -- "It hit me like a ton of bricks ... [but] I also found it really exciting: Suddenly, my father was in my life," he told Wonderwall exclusively.

The "300" actor also connected with his 8-year-old half-brother: "I'd heard rumors that I had a half-brother, but we hadn't spoken," he told Wonderwall. "I hadn't seen my father for so long that I didn't know if it was true."

The reality that he was now a big brother hit a 16-year-old Gerard on the night he arrived in Toronto when his younger half-sibling asked if they could sleep in the same bed: "I'm like, 'Oh my God. I'm a big brother!' It was really crazy," he said.

Gerard Butler's London Has Fallen Attacks Theaters Next October

CINEMA BLEND

Gerard Butler's London Has Fallen Attacks Theaters Next October image

Olympus Has Fallen was a nice little sleeper hit in its release during last year’s off season, so naturally those in charge looked for a way to keep the party going. Not too long after the first film’s success died down, London Has Fallen was announced, confirming that for at least one more go-around the minds in charge found a story worth blowing things up for. Up until now, the only plot details we had fit into one line: Mike Banning goes to London, it all goes down. The time has come for a little more information, as well as a release date and new distributor, courtesy of an official press release.

Focus Features issued a document stating that they have not only acquired the distribution rights to London Has Fallen, but they will be opening on October 2, 2015. Gerard Butler is the only star officially attached to return, which leaves Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, and director Antoine Fuqua all in limbo for the time being. Since Butler is also a producer on this would-be franchise, it wouldn’t be surprising if he has the rapport and the pull to bring all three collaborators back into the fold. (While he’s at it, he should bring back Angela Bassett, and give her some field work this time around.)

As for the film’s plot, this is what the official release has to say:

"The sequel to the worldwide smash hit "Olympus Has Fallen" begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the Western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable secret service head (Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one."

How film star Gerard Butler helped poor children in Liberia for Mary's Meals

HERALD SCOTLAND
20 December, 2013

During a four-day trip to Liberia in Africa this month, the actor helped cooks prepare and serve meals to school pupils on behalf of Mary's Meals.

Butler loved the experience and said he has been inspired to get more involved with the charity, after he helped out in a school maths class, played football with children and danced with local villagers.

Mary's Meals was set up by Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow in a shed in Dalmally, Argyll, but has grown into an international school feeding programme, working in countries where hunger and poverty prevent children from gaining an education. It also sends backpacks filled with school essentials around the world to ensure children can make the most of their time in class.

Scot Butler, 44, presented Mr MacFarlane-Barrow with an award in 2010 and has supported the charity since.

The actor said: "I have come to know Mary's Meals but I had no idea of what that really meant until I came to see what is possible with this organisation and the effect it can have on the lives of so many children.

"One of the things that I have been struck by during this visit is the strength of people's dignity, and what I love about Mary's Meals is that it is all about retaining this. They don't operate a free system where people are just taking; instead it is all about respecting and promoting the lives of people, their culture and what they are capable of.

"I've seen a lot of these communities becoming more energised and alive, and what Mary's Meals does is that it helps create a sense of community that goes way beyond the feeding programme itself."

Mary's Meals has been working in Liberia since 1994 and the school feeding programme in the country is the second biggest run by the charity after Malawi.

It now reaches more than 820,000 children around the world.

Gerard Butler displays his fit physique in tight shirt as he strolls around LA with a manbag

He's rocketed to almost A-list Hollywood leading man, and actor Gerard Butler has that million dollar smile to match.

But on Monday, the 44-year-old actor looked down to earth as he strolled around in a scruffy T-shirt, showing off his physique, and resting a manbag on his shoulder.

The Olympus Has Fallen star wore a pair of olive green trousers, black leather shoes and aviator sunglasses to complete the outfit.

Gerard had his short dark hair running free and accessorised with multiple bracelets on his left wrist.

The 300 actor was joined on his walk with a look-alike friend who was about the same height and build as Gerard and also wore a similar V-neck T-shirt and sunglasses.

It was recently announced that Gerard will reprise his role as US Army Ranger Mike Banning in London Has Fallen, the sequel to his hit action film earlier this year Olympus Has Fallen.

Gerard Butler back for "London Has Fallen"

Gerard Butler back for "London Has Fallen"

YAHOO

30 Oct – With the success of Antoine Fuqua's "Olympus Has Fallen", Millennium Films has decided to produce and finance the sequel, which will be titled "London Has Fallen".

After holding the President of the United States hostage in a terrorist attack on the White House, the sequel will move to London, with the story now revolving around a plot to strike London during the funeral of the British Prime Minister.

Lead cast members Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell will return to reprise their roles in the sequel, but it is highly unlikely that Antoine Fuqua will return to direct as he is busy with the post-production work on film adaptation of "The Equalizer", which stars Denzel Washington.

"Olympus Has Fallen" is said to be more successful over Roland Emmerich's similar White House action film titled "White House Down" due to the former having grossed over USD 161 million with a significantly smaller budget as opposed to the latter.
