10 Times When Loki Was Actually Low-Key

Pop Sugar
BRITTNEY STEPHENS

It's been a busy few years for Loki — as well as Tom Hiddleston, the actor who portrays him — and things have only gotten more eventful since Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas. Even though Loki is a dangerous supervillain and spends most of his time throwing knives, making himself invisible, and plotting against his adoptive brother, deep down he's really just like the rest of us. Loki, too, likes to curl up with a good book, kick back and relax at home, and even hang out with kids — lest we forget, he literally has all the time in the world. In honour of the movie's release, we're taking a look at some of the times Loki was actually low-key.

 1. Pondering his life

2. Public Speaking

5. Babysitting

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston share a giggle in their costumes as they film Avengers 4 in Atlanta

Daily Mail

They were first spotted filming scenes for the new superhero movie Avengers 4 on Wednesday.
And Chris Hemsworth, 34, and Tom Hiddleston, 36, were back at it on Thursday in downtown Atlanta.

Chris, who plays the hammer-wielding Thor, and Tom, who plays Thor's brother Loki, looked like they were having a ball on set.

Hard at work: Chris Hemsworth, 34, and Tom Hiddleston, 36, were again seen filming Avengers 4 on Thursday in downtown Atlanta.

The untitled Avengers film will be released on May 3, 2019. Chris can currently be seen in Thor: Ragnarok.

This sighting comes just days after Downey Jr confirmed he was a part of Avengers 4 with an Instagram photo; he will be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

The snap shows shows Stark's much smaller and more padded director's chair in front of three others labelled Scott Lang, Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers.

SPOILER: The Marvel Cameo in Thor: Ragnarok That You Haven't Heard About Yet

Popsugar October 20, 2017 by RYAN ROSCHKE

Warning: we're about to dish on a major Marvel spoiler in Thor: Ragnarok.

While that other surprise celebrity cameo in Thor: Ragnarok came out of left field, there's one character appearance that makes a whole lot of sense. Early on in the third installment of the standalone Thor films, we check back in with none other than Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Basically, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) go to Earth to find their father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), whom Loki has left stranded in a human retirement home. Sadly, the human retirement home has been completely demolished. Loki then suddenly vanishes from Thor's side, and only a small card with a Bleecker Street address is left behind. Thor goes to the address to find our mystical brooding doctor, complete with his magical cape.

Doctor Strange's appearance is actually kind of a no-brainer. Their big scene gives us serious déjà vu: Thor across from Doctor Strange, drinking a huge beer stein that never seems to empty, asking about Loki's whereabouts. The reason it feels so familiar is it's pretty much an exact replication of one of the postcredit scenes for the Doctor Strange origin story film. Except this time, we have context.

Tom Hiddleston: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ tests Loki's boundaries

Philstar Global
October 4, 2017

(As released) It has been four years since audiences have seen Tom

Hiddleston don Loki’s golden horns on the big screen, and now the "God of Mischief" is back in Philippine cinemas this October 25 for "Thor: Ragnarok."

On the set of "Thor: Ragnarok," Hiddleston talked about the adopted son of Odin, and the many complex relationships that happen to revolve around the trickster’s mercurial spirit.

“The opposite of love is not hate but indifference,” Hiddleston discussed how Thor being indifferent to Loki is troubling for the character from a familial point of view. “That’s a defining feature of his character. I don’t belong in the family; I hate my brother. And the idea his brother’s like, yeah, whatever, it’s an interesting development.”

“The two of them are placed in such an extraordinary situation where everything is unfamiliar; that their familiarity, literally, as family members becomes important.” The now famous scene from the teaser trailer of the Asgardian brothers fighting side by side shows how the siblings seem to have come terms—at least temporarily—with their complicated relationship.

“Loki’s feelings towards his family members are complex, to say the least,” Hiddleston reflected on the first film. “The moment of Thor’s ascension, he finds out he doesn’t belong there at all. I never conceived of Loki’s emotional connections to Odin or Thor as malevolent. He just wants to have a go on the throne, which he does.”

When it comes to complex relationships, Hulk knows a thing or two about burying your feelings. The big green guy is added to the mix in Ragnarok and Hiddleston thinks fans are going to enjoy their interaction, “In The Avengers, Hulk and Loki never really had a conversation. It was more, more of a physical meeting, an extended group hug, shall we say,” joked Hiddleston. “So it’s fun when the two of them meet.”

"Tom Hiddleston was so effortlessly charming": Kenneth Branagh remembers discovering a star

DIGITAL SPY
BY MORGAN JEFFERY

Tom Hiddleston is now one of Hollywood's brightest lights, adored by legions of fans - and Kenneth Branagh always suspected he'd become a star.

Branagh – who cast Hiddleston as Loki in 2011's Thor – remembered how he first saw the actor in Othello at the Donmar Warehouse several years prior.

"I saw Tom Hiddleston play Cassio in Michael Grandage's production of Othello, which starred Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor," Branagh recalled.

Tom Hiddleston, BAFTAS

"I'd not seen him before, but it was quite clear that he was an utterly naturalistic speaker of Shakespeare. It's not necessarily a part in which you can score, Cassio - he is in many ways the relatively straightforward young man...

"But Tom made him so effortlessly charming and was so adept, adroit and invisibly easy with the language, that it did feel like it was the start of something.

"Even against those two [Ejiofor and McGregor], that boy really stood out."

Hiddleston later appeared opposite Branagh in the first series of BBC One's Wallander in 2008 - and the two crossed paths again at the auditions for Thor.

"He auditioned with a clarity of purpose and a drive... not arrogance, and not over-ambition, but he was just very clear - I felt like I was watching that process happen before my very eyes," Branagh recalled.

Kenneth Branagh battles doubt as actor

THE BULLETIN
By Luaine Lee / Tribune News Service
Published May 4, 2016 at 12:02AM

TV SPOTLIGHT “WALLANDER” 9 P.M. SUNDAYS, PBS

PASADENA, Calif. — Though Kenneth Branagh is perched at the top of his game — both in directing and acting — 10 years ago he had serious doubts.

The star of such films as “My Week with Marilyn” and “Hamlet,” and the director of movies like “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” “Cinderella” and “Thor,” Branagh could paper his house with accolades, throw in a knighthood, a theater company and a panoply of memorable performances.

But he says, “I found in my 40s a time when I found acting extremely difficult and very pressurized. And I didn’t want to quit, but I had to get over the hump of it. It began when I was playing in ‘Conspiracy’ for HBO.”

“Conspiracy” was about the meeting of Nazi officials held to determine the “final solution for the Jewish question.” Branagh played SS Gen. Reinhard Heydrich, the leader of the conference.

“It lasted for quite a few years where it was much harder to lose yourself in a character,” he says. “It started there because I didn’t want to be part of that man’s psyche, and it felt like one became rather self-conscious about what one was doing. And really, where I rediscovered joy with acting was when ‘Wallander’ began.”

“Wallander” is the PBS series on “Masterpiece Mystery!” about a melancholic Swedish detective, filled with quiet desperation as he observes the worst among us. The final three episodes begin airing Sunday.

“In a way it was because you stripped artifice away, and you became very comfortable with being uncomfortable,” he says. “You realized that to play something like this it just wouldn’t or couldn’t be easy. Just trying to present the truth under the unflinching gaze of the film camera, you had no choice but to commit. And somehow it put me out of the other side of a period where I’d been just not enjoying it for a long time, still committed to it, but finding it very, very difficult.”

He says he began to ponder the meaning of his work. “Sometimes you have to shake yourself down to understand how a piece of entertainment can be quite meaningful to people, or at the very least, enjoyable and diverting. And this is not a bad thing to be able to do. I think during that time, I lost a little that sense of purpose, in a way that sounds like it’s ego-led about legacy, but it’s more about finding a purpose.”

Branagh was born in Belfast. His mother worked in a tobacco factory, his dad was a plumber and carpenter. “It was a working class district of Belfast,” he says. “We lived in a very small house. We were working class rather than poor. We always had clothes and food. There were tangible moments in my childhood when I knew there wasn’t — that they were having a tough time.”

Let Tom Hiddleston Seduce You: ‘The Night Manager’ Is the Best Bond Audition Yet

THE DAILY BEAST
Kevin Fallon
April 19, 2016

There’s a scene late in AMC’s sexy spy thriller The Night Manager in which star Tom Hiddleston,
tailored to a swoon in a bespoke suit, suavely gestures to the barkeep and orders a drink: “Excuse me, sir, could I have a vodka martini, please?”

After the miniseries run of The Night Manager, a slick and highly entertaining cat-and-mouse romp (but mostly a six-episode Tom Hiddleston audition to be the next James Bond), it’s a wonder that our dashing hero doesn’t freeze in the frame right there, as whimsical animations take over the screen to the tune of a Shirley Bassey torch song.

Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager

That’s not a spoiler. It might be an endorsement.

We meet Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), a former soldier and the best damned night manager at a Cairo hotel you’ve ever met.

He encounters the mistress of a corrupt member of Egypt’s most powerful family. He senses she’s in danger. They fall, with the swiftness of 007 in pheromone-sniffing distance of a leggy blonde, in love—and in bed. And you know the rule about the first Bond Girl: tragedy ensues.

Quickly, he finds himself entrenched in an undercover mission to bring down the man responsible, an English billionaire named Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie), a corrupt arms dealer in the costume of a wealthy philanthropist.

Thor 3: Ragnarok News: Loki's death unlikely as Tom Hiddleston gets multi-movie contract with Marvel; Kenneth Branagh to helm final installment?

VENTURE CAPITAL POST
June 22, 2015

Thor 3: Ragnarok is still approximately 2 years away from its release, but as early as now, various speculations surfaced as to the possible plot of the final installment of the Thor franchise. Also, Marvel is rumored to be eyeing on director Kenneth Branagh to helm the film.

The end of days is near for Asgard as Thor: Ragnarok is slowly approaching and despite that no official synopsis has been released for the film as of yet, many theories have emerged as to the possible direction the film might go.

The fire giant "Surtur" who causes destruction is said to likely appear in Thor 3: Ragnarok. Surtur will burn the Birfrost which will lead to the destruction of Asgard. In the mythology, the god Odin fights a giant wolf and dies. Thor also faces a giant snake and ends up dead. Loki comes face to face with Heimdall and later dies, however in the comics, Thor rips Loki's head off due to his treachery.
Although Loki's death may be possible, many speculate that it is also somewhat unlikely as Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, still has a multi-movie contract with Marvel.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that Thanos might make an appearance in Thor 3: Ragnarok, and that the god of thunder, Thor, might come into a battle against Thanos and Surtur.

You probably knew him first as his Avengers character Loki, but Tom Hiddleston has expanded far beyond the breakout role. Fresh off several appearances in mini-series and even a cameo in Muppets Most Wanted, Hiddleston is in the midst of a bunch of new projects that will come out soon. It’s an exciting time to be a fan of Tom Hiddleston, there is no doubt about it. But some fans might be wondering about what the actor was like on camera before he blew up and got really famous.

 1. The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby

In this 2001 television movie, Hiddleston portrayed a lord. Though it was far from being a starring role, it is one of his first notable debuts. Can you believe how much younger he looks here?

2. The Gathering Storm

In this clip from a 2002 television movie, Hiddleston plays Randolph Churchill in a love story examining Winston Churchill and his wife’s troubled times. Apparently, he was just 21 years old when this came out. Whoa!

3. Cymbeline

Hiddleston bursting into song in character at a Shakespearan play is the video you didn’t know that you needed to watch. Though it is short, this clip from his 2007 performance will make your entire day. Maybe even your week.

Tom Hiddleston reveals character in Crimson Peak, Loki's role in Thor 3; Actor in casual terms with Elizabeth Olsen

VENTURE CAPITAL

Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is engaged in a lot of projects right now. He is currently doing Crimson Peak and will start filming Thor 3: Ragnarok Film in the coming days. This favorite villain may confirm what is eating much of his time but not Elizabeth Olsen.

First on his plate is his soon to release movie Crimson Peak. This new film Guillermo Del Toro is a gothic romance in which people can expect the film to be kinky and shocking- as Del Toro puts it. Tom Hiddleston plays the character of Sir Thomas Sharpe whom Hiddleston called the antihero.
Tom described further Sir Thomas Sharpe as "the most morally ambiguous or complex figure in the story, because ... he's genuinely caught in-between people and in-between conflicting emotions and is trying to find the best route through a very, very, difficult tangle of what people need from him and want from him and what he feels is his responsibility to those people" when he was interviewed by Collider. Prior to filming, Tom Hiddleston got so busy studying the 10 pages biography that Director Del Toro gave his actors in preparation for their characters.

As for Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Hiddleston is not ditching Elizabeth because as of press time no one could really prove that the two are seriously hooking up as reported by Youth Health. Just like everyone already knew, the two were just casual and were keeping in touch when not together because the two have been doing a project of Hank Williams' "I Saw The Light". Tom is still very much in the list of the most Eligible Bachelor though rumors about him being link to his co-stars in the film circulate in the internet.

Crimson Peak is scheduled to be in Theaters this October 2015 but as for "I Saw The Light" there has no specific schedule to date.

'Crimson Peak' Spoilers: Charlie Hunnam Says 'Beautiful' Tom Hiddleston Film Is Guillermo Del Toro's Best

FASHION AND STYLE

(Photo : Getty/Kevin Winter) "Crimson Peak" star Charlie Hunnam

We officially have less than six months before Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" hits theaters, and with every crumb of information we get about the gothic horror we can't help but feel more and more excited. The latest, provided by star Charlie Hunnam to Details, is no exception:

It's beautiful, it's him absolutely in his wheelhouse. It's a classic Gothic romance set against a backdrop of this very rural house in the middle of nowhere. Everybody did a great job, Jessica [Chastain] absolutely killed it, she's wonderful in the film. I think it's one of Guillermo's best films, if not maybe his best film.

I'm actually not really in it that much, it's really Mia Wasikowska, Jessica, and Tom Hiddleston's film, and when I'm in it, it's significant, but I really just did it because I love Guillermo and wanted to work with him again. If it had been anybody else, I probably wouldn't have taken the role. I had to turn down a lot other stuff to be free to do that. People were like, "What the f**k are you doing?" but I'm doing exactly what I damn well please. That's my answer.

15 Times Tom Hiddleston Was A Terrible Human, Because He's Ruining Lives One Smile At A Time

Look, I know Tom Hiddleston is beloved by all for being sweet and charming and ridiculously attractive. But he’s not perfect. In fact, no one ever seems to talk about his flaws (of which there are many). Hiddlestoners may think their idol is faultless, but, in actuality, Tom Hiddleston is a terrible person — and I have proof. I mean, the man constantly subjects his fans to toothy grins, endearing laughter, and adorable dance moves. So, I’m asking the question no one else is asking: how dare he?

How dare Hiddleston work hard and give back to charity and be endlessly patient with his fans? How dare he be so flawless looking? It’s really very unfair. Not only is he setting the bar incredibly high for regular men, but he’s destroying fangirls’ poor little hearts. I know I can’t take much more of this man and his perfection — it’s frankly very overwhelming.

It’s high time someone address all the things Hiddleston is doing wrong in hopes that fangirls can see that even Hiddleston isn’t perfect. In fact, sometimes he can be downright awful — I mean, there’s a reason fans call him a life ruiner. Here are 15 examples of his day-to-day egregiousness.

When He Wore a White Shirt for His Ice Bucket Challenge

He might as well have worn no shirt at all.

When His Hips Don’t Lie While Dancing

He knows full well what he’s doing to his fans, and yet he’s doing it anyway.

When He Talks About Being a Bad Boy

It’s cruel to let our minds wander like that.

He’s such a show-off with his perfect teeth.

Hiddleston should have known better than to show up looking that perfect. He took all the attention away from the happy pair.

Ray-Stevenson-black-sails-blackbeard

It’s a pirate’s life for Ray Stevenson, as the “Divergent” and “Rome” actor has joined the cast of the Starz drama “Black Sails” as the notorious raider Blackbeard.

Stevenson joins the cast for season three, which has Blackbeard (or Edward Teach if you’re being formal) returning to settle some unfinished business. A great deal has changed during his absence, meaning he’ll have to disrupt some cemented alliances and challenge new ones.

“Black Sails” follows feared pirate Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his crew. It takes place 20 years prior to the events depicted in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Stevenson joins a cast that also includes Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Zach McGowan, Clara Paget and Toby Schmitz. The series is created by executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and is also executive produced by Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Chris Symes and Dan Shotz also serve as executive producers.

Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie scale the Matterhorn for The Night Manager

Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie have begun their ascent of John le Carré's The Night Manager in the Swiss Alps – with the dramatic peak of the Matterhorn as picturesque backdrop.

The BBC drama of the same name is a six-part adaptation of the espionage novel. Along with Hiddleston and Laurie, Rev stars Olivia Colman and Tom Hollander will reunite for the BBC/AMC co-production.

The Night Manager tells the story of British soldier Jonathan Price (Hiddleston) who is on a mission to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie). The series was announced last October, with stars Hiddleston and Laurie confirmed in January 2015.

Anthony Hopkins & Ian McKellen Talk Tyrannical Directors, State Of TV & Finally Working Together On ‘The Dresser’

DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD
by Nancy Tartaglione
March 19, 2015 5:00pm

THE DRESSER - AH and IM FINAL

On the Ealing Studios lot, which once played host to Alec Guinness and the Ealing Comedies — and is now the residence of Downton Abbey — Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen have been shooting BBC/Starz’s upcoming The Dresser. This is the adaptation of Ronald Harwood’s classic play that’s produced by Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment. It’s the first time in many years that a play has been adapted in such a way for television. And it joins the two veteran stars together for the first time. It will air on BBC Two this year and on Starz in 2016.

Callender tells me it is likely the first project of a six-part series of single dramas that Playground is developing for television that he will produce with Sonia Friedman. I was on The Dresser set last week, speaking with the principals on such diverse topics as Hopkins’ distaste for theater acting thanks to “tyrannical directors” and McKellen’s belief that some television is currently “in the doldrums.”

In The Dresser, Hopkins plays an ailing actor known as Sir, and McKellen is his devoted backstage hand and dresser, Norman. It takes place on a fateful night in a small regional theater during World War II as a troupe of touring actors stage a production of Shakespeare’s King Lear. As the backstage situation reaches a crisis, it parallels the onstage struggle of Lear and his Fool. The play was inspired by Harwood’s experiences as a dresser for the distinguished British actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit. Richard Eyre is directing. Emily Watson, Happy Valley‘s Sarah Lancashire, Everest’s Vanessa Kirby and Edward Fox, who also had a role in Peter Yates’ Oscar-nominated 1983 film version, are part of the supporting cast.

The small set of Sir’s dressing room and other parts of the backstage are closed off with a video village a few feet away. There are about 30 people milling about. Watson tells me, “There is so much history here, somewhere if you dig deep enough, the walls have got bales of hay in them.”

The craft services table is emblematic of British shoots. There are some sandwiches, mounds of teabags and three jars of Marmite. McKellen, I’m told, drinks Marmite with hot water in the mornings.

When I arrive, he, Hopkins, and Watson are shooting a scene where Norman, growing increasingly drunk over the course of the night, is regaling Sir on the reactions out front. The three actors clearly are reverent of the material, but there’s friendly banter in between takes when Hopkins says he had the recurring “actors’ dream” the night before of being onstage and forgetting one’s lines. He later tells me: “The dream is very real. I suppose what it is is that the subconscious mind regurgitates the mirror image. I’m meticulous about learning lines — I always have a dread about not knowing them, so I do know them.”

While learning his lines in California beginning last fall, Hopkins said he was “counting the days” until production started. “I had my face buried in the book all the time, much to the alarm of my wife (who said), ‘You’ve got to get out.’ But I loved it.”

Now, he says, “To do such a well-structured play and something I know — the insecurities the fears jealousy, paranoia, all of that. I had a dresser at the National Theatre who was one of the loneliest men I’ve ever met. He lived in East London and had nothing. Poor old guy. I remember everything. He’s dead and gone now, but I remember the loneliness of that guy. This is Norman.”

Hopkins didn’t last long on the boards when he was younger, saying he “skedaddled from the theater years ago.” What made him leave? “I couldn’t fit in, I just feel alien in companies. … I get bored after the second night. I’d think ‘Oh, God.’ So I escaped and went back to California.” The Dresser is particularly poignant because it brings back the “bleakness of life in those touring companies.” He toured with the National Theatre for four months in 1957, and it was a killer. “Some people thrive on (tours), but I couldn’t. You get the thing where you have the tyrannical directors screaming and shouting, and costume calls at 1 AM and being ridiculed. And, I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I’m getting out of this; I’d rather do something else’.”

I asked him if he had come across tyrannical directors in film. “I don’t put up with them,” Hopkins said. “They keep out of my way. They don’t mess with me.” The Dresser, he said, is “a return, in a way, to a kind of pain-free visit to the theater.” And working with McKellen has been “extraordinary. … He’s a great actor to be with. He’s a great friend and very, very funny. We laugh all the time.”

The pair were both in Laurence Olivier’s company at the National Theatre many years ago, and each reminisces about the actors of the day — “All the old guys like Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud because we knew all of them, that’s a world I remember,” says Hopkins.

McKellen tells me, “We’ve worked out that I was (at the National) for nine months and I think about the day I left, he joined.” McKellen still regularly does plays, having stuck it out with such artists as Derek Jacobi, Michael Gambon, Michael York, Maggie Smith and Joan Plowright, he reels off to me in his dressing room, which is peppered with The Dresser paraphernalia.

Working now with Hopkins, McKellen says: “If you had to pick one of the top actors of our time, you know Anthony Hopkins would have to be up there in any country. So to be close to him while he’s working has been a thrill.”

Watson echoes that there are days “when I really pinch myself; I can’t believe I’m here doing this with these guys.” Watson’s character, Her Ladyship, is Sir’s long-suffering wife and leading lady.
