Star actor, director and playwright Kenneth Branagh has come to the rescue of a major drama festival run annually in Windsor.
He stepped in when a company, which has previously sponsored Windsor Fringe Festival's international drama competition, pulled out.
Ann Trewartha from the Fringe committee said: "I wrote to him three years ago when he was filming Wallander in Sweden, asking if he would be one of the judges of our drama competition. He was really generous with his time.
"When we lost our sponsors this year I contacted him again - this time he was directing a film in Los Angeles and he agreed at once to sponsor the competition. He just likes to do what he can to support new writing."
This is the eighth year of the Fringe's international drama award and 145 scripts were received from 12 countries worldwide.
The winning three will be performed at the Fringe which runs from September 23 until October 9 at venues across Windsor.
