Colin Firth has lost out on pole position in a survey to find Britain's Best Looking Bloke - being pipped at the post by Formula One driver Jenson Button.

The sports star topped a list of 20 names compiled by Wizard Jeans, which asked 1,500 women to rank a selection of male celebrities.

Spooks actor Richard Armitage came in second place, while last year's winner and Hollywood star Firth was in third.

Button's team mate Lewis Hamilton, who is dating former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, was ranked 14th.

Sally Allen of Wizard Jeans said: "A handsome profile is undoubtedly heaven-sent but looking good is usually a much more down-to-earth process for men.

"It's concerned with grooming and making the most of your natural attractiveness. Jenson Button has a natural charm which placed him in pole position in this year's good looks Grand Prix."

The list also included actor Clive Owen in fourth place and footballer David Beckham in fifth. Well-groomed thespian Jude Law made it to sixth slot, while Bond star Daniel Craig was in seventh place.

Singer and reality TV star Peter Andre was voted eighth best looking, while Torchwood's John Barrowman (11th), new Superman Henry Cavill (12th) and comedian turned actor Russell Brand (13th) all made the top 20.
