‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Air Date: Plus 10 Things To Know About Fourth Season

LATIN TIMES
By Susmita Baral | Jun 13 2014, 01:05PM EDT

The air date -- both U.S. and UK -- of "Sherlock" season 4 has not been revealed, but the current estimation is that te new season will air in 2016. Why? Each season thus far has been released with a two-year gap -- season one aired in 2010, Season 2 premiered in 2012, and the third season in 2014 -- and with season 3 having aired at the start of this year, it would make sense that the fourth season arrive in 2016.

It should be noted; however, that the show isn't intentionally seeking a pattern and that BBC has reportedly denied the rumors that Season 4 will return in 2016. In fact, RadioTimes reports, citing anonymous sources, that the new season of "Sherlock" could be airing as early as next year! “It will not be this year – but 2015 is very much the hope and expectation,” said the source, adding that production will take place at the start of 2015.

Until then, here are ten things you should know about season 4 of "Sherlock":

1. Moriarty could be alive. The last scene of "Sherlock" season 3 opened the door for Moriarty (the main villain from season 2) to be alive. The villain made his return across the digital screens of the world, which leaves his fate just as murky as the new season's premiere date. The character popped up in Season 3 -- he was scene in Sherlock's imagination -- but could Moriarty have faked his own death?

“I can’t really say what we’re doing with that, but there is no last-minute whim in this," said Steven Moffat to Vulture when asked about the new twist. "We’ve had what we’re going to do with Moriarty in place from before the second season. Exactly what we’re going to do. I remember talking it through with Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty. Wait and see what’s going to happen.”

2. Watson will be a father. Mary Morstan wed Watson in season 3, and by the last episode, it was revealed that Morstan and Watson were expecting a baby. When the show returns to the screen, Mary would either have already given birth or she would be on the verge of it. Regardless of the minor details of when she pops out Baby Watson, one thing can be certain: Fans will see Watson, Morstan, and Holmes adjusting to a new member in their lives.

3. John and Mary will be interesting parents. In an interview with Vulture, actress Amanda Abbington revealed what kind of parents John and Mary would be.

"On the one hand, they’d probably be reckless because they’re both quite psychopathic," said Abbington. "But I think an assassin and an army doctor who loves trouble, I mean, that kid has got nothing to worry about. Screwed up mentally, of course, but if there’s any bullying on the playground, we’re covered."

4. Janine will be back. Think you saw the end of Mary's friend and Sherlock's temporary love interest, Janine? Nope! She'll be back and they'll be friends, according to Moffat.

"He likes her, though," the writer told IGN. "He'll see her again. They'll be pals. I loved Yasmine's performance as Janine -- she still likes him in the end. At some point, you know, if Sherlock Holmes has to go to a function and he needs a date, he'll phone her up. Now, he'll not expect her to say no. She'll be very cross with him, but she'll show up, and they'll have a good time. They will, because he likes her."

5. The third Holmes brother may appear. Sherlock Holmes has another brother, Sherrinford Holmes, according to some variations of short stories. Hardcore fans have long been speculating that the creative team of the show will introduce the third brother to add a new dimension to the hit series, and Moffat was cryptic about whether or not this brother will make an appearance in the next season.

6. A-list actor may be playing the third brother. There has been a great deal of online discussion about "Thor" and "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston joining the cast of "Sherlock" as Benedict Cumberbatch's character's third brother. In a Q&A in Brazil, "Sherlock" co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also happens to play Mycroft Holmes in the series, joked about the idea when assked if Hiddleston would be considered for the role.

"Tom would be wonderful in 'Sherlock,'" Gatiss says. "But he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like."

Michael Fassbender’s movie magic is award-worthy

LARNE TIMES

Larne man Mike Collins with his famous nephew, actor Michael Fassbender. INLT-23-714-con

Michael Fassbender’s Larne uncle says it is only a matter of time before his famous nephew wins a major award.

Speaking exclusively to The Times the day after he saw his nephew star as Magneto in the new Xmen movie Days of Future Past, local man Mike Collins stated: “I took my son to see Xmen last night.

“To be honest, I’m not a big Xmen fan, but the movie I saw last night was brilliant.”

The most recent installation in the Xmen blockbuster franchise sees Xmen characters from the past and present unite to fight for the survival of their species.

Michael and his parents

Michael Fassbender has a special link to Larne, as his mother Adele is from the area and he regularly visited his grandparents at the town’s Wellington Parade during his childhood.

Michael was born in Germany, his father’s native land, before his family moved to Kilarney.

His uncle Mike recalled: “Michael would have been here on numerous occasions – Christmas, family get togethers.

“The last time he was in Larne would have been four years ago for my wedding reception at Ballygally castle.

Michael and his dad

“He always wanted to be an actor, since he was very young – since primary and secondary school he was always involved in some form of acting and drama.

“He was also a bit of a musician and played everything, including the guitar, which he still plays.”

Mike says that the family is very proud of their famous son, who worked ‘very, very hard‘ to make it in Hollywood.

He continued: “I thought he was brilliant in 12 Years A Slave and in Hunger.

“He has had some brilliant roles, but 12 Years A Slave is probably my favourite.

'Genius' movie star Jude Law sports baggy pant look in London

t was recently announced that actor Jude Law will play the role of Thomas Wolfe in the film "Genius" alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth but that is not what has him front and center in the news.

Fans accustomed to seeing the handsome actor in stylish clothes were given quite the shock when he was photographed in some extremely baggy trousers with his head covered in a cream beanie hat while out on some errands. It was a look that did nothing to accentuate the strong frame of the renowned actor but interestingly it did spark conversation about the movie and his upcoming projects.

The film "Genius" will be filmed in 2015 and will revolve around Max Perkins' time as a book editor at Scribner during which he supervised the works of Thomas Wolfe and Ernest Hemingway among others. Many anticipate that his pairing with Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth will bring another sterling performance from him similar to what he provided the fans of his most recent movie "Dom Hemingway.

(Photos) New series of axed BBC drama Ripper Street being filmed in Dublin today after being saved by online giant Amazon

Fed: The Spooks actor later left his trailer - no doubt for a hard afternoon's filming

The cast and crew of axed BBC drama Ripper Street were today filming the show's third series after the Victorian costume drama was saved by online giant Amazon.

The show, set in London's Whitechapel in 1889 - six months after the gruesome Jack The Ripper Murders, was axed by the BBC at the end of last year due to poor viewing figures.

There were also some issues with sound -  with dozens of viewers complaining to the BBC about  'meaningless mumbling' throughout the second series.

And, if today's pictures are anything to go by, filming for the latest series - which will see the return of crime-fighting duo Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn - appears to be going swimmingly.

Jerome Flynn - or Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake as he is known in the show - could be seen milling about on locations in full costume, chatting to numerous members of cast and crew.

Following the announcement in February, BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson said the deal was 'an exceptional opportunity' to bring the show back - while freeing up BBC money for new drama series.

Tiger Aspect’s Head of Drama, Will Gould added: 'In the past year we’ve transmitted two series of Ripper Street in the UK, had highs of eight million viewers, sold the show to over 150 countries, got Bafta nominated and voted Radio Times best show of the year, were cancelled and resurrected.

GERARD BUTLER: 'I DIDN'T SEE MY FATHER FOR 14 YEARS'

WONDERWALL
Tuesday, June 10, 2014, 10:04am (PDT)
By Michael Mullen

rp animated GIF

Gerard was born in Scotland, but his family relocated to Montreal when he was 6 months old. His parents divorced a year and a half later, and Gerard's mother moved back to Scotland with Gerard and his siblings. Gerard would later ask his mother, "I'm not going to see my dad, am I?" She told him, "No, I don't think so."

But that changed when he was 16: "I came home one night, and my stepfather said, 'Keep your jacket on, you're going into town. Your dad's here,'" Gerard said. "And I had to go into this restaurant and walk around this packed restaurant going from table to table literally looking at men going 'Is that my dad? Is that my dad? Is that my dad?' [Chuckles.] And then he finally stood up and he was the weirdest looking guy in the restaurant."

Gerard left Scotland and "went straight to Toronto [where his father lived] and spent a summer there." He made up for lost time with his dad -- "It hit me like a ton of bricks ... [but] I also found it really exciting: Suddenly, my father was in my life," he told Wonderwall exclusively.

The "300" actor also connected with his 8-year-old half-brother: "I'd heard rumors that I had a half-brother, but we hadn't spoken," he told Wonderwall. "I hadn't seen my father for so long that I didn't know if it was true."

The reality that he was now a big brother hit a 16-year-old Gerard on the night he arrived in Toronto when his younger half-sibling asked if they could sleep in the same bed: "I'm like, 'Oh my God. I'm a big brother!' It was really crazy," he said.

Benedict Cumberbatch enjoys the French Open final (FameFlyNet)

In recent weeks he's been seen at the Monaco Grand Prix, and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and over the weekend Benedict Cumberbatch continued to make sure he balanced work with pleasure, by checking out the French Open.

The Sherlock star looked relatively low-key in fancy sunglasses and a dark blue polo shirt, but once the specs came off there was no mistaking him.

He wasn't the only famous face spotted amongst the crowd in Paris, as Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin, and a number of other French celebs were also in attendance.

Benedict may have looked all cool and casual at the game, but his pal Keira Knightley had revealed last week that he can spring into action when needs be.

The Love Actually actress said in an interview with Time that he actually punched a film critic in the arm for being mean about her.

"When I saw him [Benedict] again, I said, 'Did you punch a journalist?' and he was like, 'I f**king did!'

Tom Hiddleston rumoured to be next villain in Batman v. Superman

- English theatre and movie actor
- Known for playing Loki in the Marvel Studios film "Thor"
- Won 2013 MTV movie award for Best Villain for role in "The Avengers"

Rumours are flowing through the internet about actor Tom Hiddleston as many believe that he might soon be chosen as the next villain in the movie "Batman v. Superman". The actor has earned much critical acclaim and love from fans for his amazing performance as Loki in the Avengers movies in which he has arguably stolen most of the scenes he has been involved in and left some of the most memorable impressions on movie viewers.

While the rumours have not been substantiated entertainment insiders have noted that eventually in the Dark Knight series there will be a need for the Joker to make his presence felt in the movie and while Heath Ledger was incredible as the Joker in the movie there is no one that doubts the ability of the 2013 winner of the MTV movie award for the Best Villain to be spectacular in this role.

One of the things that makes the rumour about Tom Hiddleston potentially playing the role of Joker so juicy and appealing is that despite the movie role having been played by Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson there is complete confidence within entertainment insiders that he will be able to provide a different outlook of the character.

Tonight’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ Is Its Most Expensive Episode, Ever

MTV
by alicia lutes 06/08/14

We’re already way excited for tonight’s brand new episode of “Game of Thrones” — The Watchers on The Wall. But when you take into consideration the fact that this is the series’ most expensive hour to date? Well, now we can barely sit still.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Jon Snow’s real-life counterpart Kit Harington, explained the episode is “as big as Thrones has gone at the moment. I mean, I think it’s no secret that it’s the most expensive episode that they’ve ever made and a lot of that is due to the CGI.” (Though to be fair, Jon Snow knows nothing, so take that with a grain of salt.)

The series’ showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, confirmed as such going over the details of the episode with Entertainment Weekly, even noting that episode touts both “the biggest green screen in Europe” and “the biggest Styrofoam piece in existence.”

“It’s a very intense episode, more intense than ‘Blackwater,’” said Benioff.

Weiss added: “With ‘Blackwater’ when we got the episode in, so much of it was visual effects dependent we were kind of unsure — the performances were fantastic and the action was great, but we weren’t entirely sure what we had until the pieces were put together. But with this, … just something about it really grabbed us by the neck [and] that’s very rare even with the great directors we’re fortunate to work with.”

The grand scale of the episode is likely what caused it to have such a mega-budget, thanks to production designer Deborah Riley, who, according to Benioff “did this magnificent top-of-The Wall set, far bigger than what we had before, so you can do walk-and-talks, you can have massive action sequences. It’s completely surrounded by green screen.”

Downton Abbey's David Robb tells of heartache over death of his wife, High Road star Briony McRoberts

DAILY RECORD
Jun 08, 2014 13:42 By Craig McDonald

THE husband of High Road actress Briony McRoberts has told how his wife was “murdered by anorexia”.

Briony tragically jumped to her death under a train last year at the age of 56.

Speaking for the first time about his loss, husband David Robb said: “She had a future. She hadn’t  written, ‘Today’s the day’. She was murdered by anorexia.

“It isn’t a self-centred teenage disease. It kills people – including middle-aged women.

“It is a silent killer. Not a quirk of diet but a mental illness and if it gets its hooks in, it can suffocate.”

Downtown Abbey actor David, 66, told how his wife had likened her anorexia to being strangled by a boa constrictor.

He said: “She told me it felt like being squeezed all the time.”

Briony left home on July 17 last year with just her wedding ring and a travel card before she jumped in front of a train on the London underground near their home.

A former child star, she went on to play superbitch Sam Hagen in High Road. She was just three weeks away from beginning treatment for her eating disorder when she died.
