As the heir to the Earl of Grantham in Downton Abbey, it is not a social hazard that Matthew Crawley ever faced. The actor Dan Stevens has, however, upset his wife, Susie Hariet by his obsession with social-networking websites.
“He’s a nightmare,” she tells me at the 30th anniversary celebration of Le Caprice restaurant in St James’s. “I organised a lovely, romantic dinner for us and I caught him secretly sending messages on Twitter under the table.”
Stevens says: “Hugh Bonneville encouraged me to get into Twitter.” Bonneville, who plays the upright Lord Grantham, is one to watch online. He has previously starred in the film Conspiracy of Silence and the play 'Tis Pity She’s a Whore.
