Downtown Raleigh is the backdrop for several scenes in a new Colin Firth movie being filmed today.
The film's producers are filming on Fayetteville Street today. Police are blocking the street and sidewalks, and small crowds have gathered trying to catch a glimpse of Firth and his co-star, Emily Blunt.

Several people were engaged as extras, including the operator of a hot-dog cart.

In addition, the front of the N&O building, at 215 S. McDowell Street, was transformed this morning into the Terre Haute Police Department’s Central Precinct for the movie, “Arthur Newman, Golf Pro.” For the scene at The N&O, Firth’s character will be filmed walking into the “police department” lobby.
This isn’t the first time the News & Observer building, completed in 1956, has been in the movies. The N&O presses were filmed for the 1994 Coen Brothers movie “The Hudsucker Proxy,” which starred Tim Robbins and Paul Newman.

The filming will close some downtown streets today: the 200 block of Fayetteville Street and the City Plaza (until 5 p.m.); the 200 block of West Martin Street (until 7 p.m.); and the 200 block of South McDowell Street for short periods from noon to 5 p.m.

The city of Raleigh says parking will be restricted today until 7 p.m. along several streets, including the 200 block of Fayetteville Street, and the 100 and 200 blocks of West Martin Street.
“Arthur Newman, Golf Pro” has filmed scenes in Fairmont, a small town in Robeson County, and will also film scenes near Burlington, in Alamance County.
