DOWNTON Abbey's posh Countess of Grantham seems to have hit hard times — clearing rubbish without the help of even a single uniformed footman.
American actress Elizabeth McGovern, 50, who plays toff Lady Cora in the ITV1 drama, got stuck in as she cleared her West London home during renovations.
Dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, she carried out old household items including an ironing board to take to the local dump.
An onlooker said: "Elizabeth didn't mind getting her hands dirty in the big clear-out. Lady Cora would have been appalled!"
