Downton Abbey star Brendan Coyle talks Christmas special and John Bates!

As fans of Downton will know, at the end of series two, we saw John Bates being led off by the police on suspicion of murdering his toxic wife Vera

And today, TV Choice magazine have an interview with Brendan Coyle, who of course plays valet Bates.
However, when asked what he could tell readers about what’s going to happen to Bates in the show’s Christmas special, Brendan joked, “Absolutely nothing! It’s been nice talking to you and I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!”

He added, I’ve spoken to the producers and I just can’t say…”

However, he went on to reveal that he’s delighted that the show has been so well received by viewers, and that thousands of us are eagerly awaiting the Christmas special.

Of it, Brendan added, “The scripts were amazing for the Christmas episode. I don’t see what all the other actors are doing, so when I watch it I’m a punter as well.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

Brendan was then asked to describe the scenes in which his character is in court, and in prison.
He said, “Very atmospheric and intense, especially filming in the cells.

“Courts are designed to make you feel small so when I walked up the stairs into the dock, it was pretty intimidating.”

And finally, Brendan was asked how he’d be spending Christmas, to which he replied, “I haven’t decided yet but I love the build up.

“I try to keep it at arms length as much a possible because it’s a bit too commercial, but I’ll get the tree up.

“I celebrate my birthday at this time too so I associate it with winding down, stopping work.”

Oo I cannot wait for the Christmas special! And don’t forget, you can read all the spoilers for Downton here.
