Emily Blunt: "Actresses can be savages" (Heatworld)

Emily Blunt:

British actress Emily Blunt hasn‘t done too badly for herself over in Hollywood. The star has landed roles in such films as The Devil Wears Prada and Young Victoria. However, she didn’t land these roles without a struggle, as she recently spoke out about how “savage” women can be in the industry when trying to bag that dream role. Emily says,

"Oh, God, yes…absolutely. Because the good stuff - everyone wants the good stuff. We're like savages. There's not much meat on the bones in this industry so all the women go crazy when there's a great role…If I open a script and the description reads 'nice, normal girl', I slam it shut,"
The actress is also known for her roles in succesful, cult, independent films such as Sunshine Cleaning. Emily claims that women get a better chance at shining in these types of films, as the script offers more for female characters.

"They're the best parts and the best scripts, usually. Sometimes the bigger-budget films are made for teenage boys, so the girl parts are one-dimensional or rather idealistic and I don't know how to play The Girlfriend part - there's nothing there for me to do.”

Blunt recently married The Office: An American Workplace star John Krasinski. The fellow actor is famous for landing comedy roles, so how does Emily feel about trying to bring out her funny side in films?

“I think there's a tendency to think women can't be funny…But you look at someone like Kristen Wiig [the lead in Bridesmaids], I think people like her are real trailblazers for girls in the comedy world. If you love it or hate it you can't deny that Bridesmaids is such a big film for women. It was a really important film to happen."
