Michael Williams, one of the favorites to win big at the Oscars next year for her performance in 'My Week With Marilyn,' is to be honored at the seventh annual 'Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film' event in Santa Monica.

The actress may not have any immediate connection to Ireland, but she is represented by talent agent Hylda Queally, who is Irish and who sits on the Oscar Wilde event's board.

Created by the US-Ireland Alliance to recognize the contributions of the Irish to film and to provide a forum for people involved in the creative industries in both the U.S. and Ireland to network once a year, the event's profile is growing annually.
According to a report on RTE, Williams will be presented with the first honorary Irishwoman award.
In a statement, president of the US-Ireland Alliance Trina Vargo explained why the organization decided to honor Michelle Williams: "She is an incredible actress with a string of memorable performances, with the latest perhaps being her greatest.

"She captures not only Monroe's look, voice, laugh, and walk, but even the smallest of mannerisms."
Other recipients of Oscar Wilde Awards in recent years include Sarah Bolger, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Colm Meaney, Van Morrison and Neil Jordan.
