Many fans felt that the X-Men franchise needed a kick up the proverbial, and boy, did Matthew Vaughn give it to them. Fresh from his Kick Ass success, Vaughn takes the story back to its origins, with the initial meeting and friendship of Charles Xavier/Professor X (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and the mutant civil war that follows.
Terrific performances from McAvoy and Fassbender lend an often silly story some real gravitas.
