Anna Karenina (MOSCOW NEWS)

September: Tolstoy in Didcot

Filming started at the end of September on a new, big-budget version of “Anna Karenina,” starring Jude Law and Keira Knightly. The blockbuster movie had been recruiting Russian extras for months, with posters in Orthodox churches and cultural centers. One of numerous locations across Russia and Britain was Didcot Railway Centre, west of London, which has authentic steam engines. Creating a fake snow scene, they filmed – among other things – Anna Karenina’s famous final encounter with a train there. The film is due for release later this year.
