The Evening Standard Film Awards took place in London last night, with two recently snubbed actors rightfully picking up awards.

Olivia Colman and Michael Fassbender should be awarded with BAFTAs and Oscars for their stunning roles this year, but we're pleased to see that the paper's critics have recognised their work.

Colman won for her heartbreaking turn as a charity worker and abused wife in Paddy Considine's powerful Tyrannosaur. It's another award for the Peep Show star, after she took home a British Independent Film Award in December and the London Critics prize.

Fassbender was named best actor for a year that's seen him star in Jane Eyre, X-Men: First Class and A Dangerous Method. However, it's his unforgettable performance in Steve McQueen's Shame that earned him the most praise.

We Need to Talk About Kevin was named best film, and we're thrilled that Andrew Haigh won best screenplay for his wonderful romance Weekend. Senna was quite rightly named best documentary, while The Guard got an award for comedy.
