Benedict Cumberbatch: Steven Moffat 'Annoyed' At US Version Of SherlockHe's worried it's going to be terrible (E.)

BBC’s Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch has proved to be a worldwide hit, so it's no surprise that US networks are eager to replicate its success.

However Sherlock co-creator and writer Steven Moffat isn’t impressed with plans to film an American version of the popular UK show, and has spoken out saying he is “annoyed” with his US counterparts.

CBS are filming a pilot called Elementary, which transports Sherlock, played by British actor Jonny Lee Miller, to New York city and radically pairs him up with a female Watson, who will be played by former 'Charlie’s Angels' actress Lucy Liu. Steven Moffat spoke to the BBC, where he voiced fears that if the American version is bad, it may impact negatively on their show and put people off the Sherlock stories.

He said: “It isn't a version of our show. They've just decided to go off and do one of their own, having been turned down by us to do an adaptation of our version. So how do you think I feel about it? Annoyed is in there. “The bigger problem for us with Elementary is, what if it's terrible? What if it's awful? Then it degrades the brand.”
