Julian Fellowes talks 'chaste' Romeo and Juliet (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS)

By: Bang Showbiz

Julian Fellowes says the new version of 'Romeo and Juliet' will be chaste. The 'Downton Abbey' creator has adapted William Shakespeare's classic tale of a pair of star crossed lovers for the big screen and rather than try to modernise the story, which stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld, Julian insisted it reflected old fashioned values with the couple not consummating their relationship until they are married.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Love is life-shaping and moving. We did feel it would be nice to have romantic, married love, and that purity was an important part of the film. They don't make love until they have been married. "One always sounds like 'Disgusted of Cheltenham' when you have these kind of discussions, but there is room for an understanding of the power of love.
