Ringo Starr has issued a statement paying tribute to drummer Levon Helm, who was a member of the first Ringo Starr All-Starr Band. Helm died Thursday after a long bout with cancer.
“God bless Levon. It was great spending time with you. Peace & love, Ringo.,” read the statement received today from his press representative.
Helm was a member of the inaugural version of the Ringo Starr All-Starr Band, which toured in 1989. In addition to Helm, that group of All-Starrs also included Billy Preston, Dr. John, Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgrin, Clarence Clemons, Rick Danko and Jim Keltner.
