Benedict Cumberbatch takes top Critics Choice award Critics Choice Television awards victories for Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock - and for Homeland, Mad Men and Breaking Bad. (THE TELEGRAPH)



Benedict Cumberbatch was named best actor in a movie or mini-series at the US Critics' Choice TV Awards.

His series Sherlock also won the best movie or mini-series award at the event in Los Angeles.

The 35-year-old Brit, who has been attracting Hollywood offers, revealed this week that filming on the hit BBC series will begin again in January on a third series.

Psychological thriller Homeland won the top prize at the Critics Choice Television awards last night in Los Angeles, edging out Mad Men.

Cable channel Showtime's Homeland was declared best TV drama series and its star Claire Danes won the best dramatic actress award for her performance as a bipolar CIA agent on the hunt for a home-grown terrorist.
