Good news for fans of Keira Knightley. The actress has landed herself another follow-up to the CIA thriller Jack Ryan. She will both star-in and produce The Other Typist now for Fox Searchlight, this according to THR. It is a feature adaptation of a novel from author Suzanne Rindell about the forbidden/glamorous underworld of 1920s New York. In other words, the comparisons to The Great Gatsby are really overt here, and depending on the director who lands this film, we may or may not see some Baz Luhrmann influence here.
Considering this is being backed by an indie studio branch, my vote is a hard ‘no’ due to budgetary constraints. There is also the elephant in the room that both Anna Karenina for Focus and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World at Searchlight performed poorly relative to production costs. Even so, Knightley is still one of the more recognizable faces in the industry thanks in part to her Pirates of Caribbean days which is why she gets yet another leading role. Expect this one to land after Jack Ryan, a big budget Kenneth Branagh production due out on Christmas Day. If the franchise’s previous iterations serve as any indication, that movie could be the actress’ biggest film since her days opposite Johnny Depp.
