He was recently spotted with a distinctive brown ponytail at a Doctor Who screening in London.

But David Tennant’s new hairstyle has less to do with fashion and more to do with theatrics as he returns to the stage in a production of Richard II from the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The 42-year-old actor takes the lead as ‘a monarch ordained by God to lead his people’ in Gregory Doran’s take on the history play, believed to have been written by William Shakespeare in 1595.

Tickets for the run are being snapped up, with live screenings also expected to take place at selected cinemas around the world on November 13.

In a first glimpse of Tennant in action, the actor is seen fully robed and with his long brown extensions as he takes on the challenging role.
