Alan Rickman Stars In New Short Film DUST Read more about Alan Rickman Stars In New Short Film DUST by broadwayworld.com

Stage and screen crossover star Alan Rickman - most recently seen on Broadway in Theresa Rebeck's SEMINAR - headlines a new short film titled DUST and the poster, behind-the-scenes promo video and still images from the controversial indie project have now been released.

The official synopsis for DUST is as follows: "TODD, a 60-something loner with a twitch, follows young JESSICA (7) and her MUM home from school. He waits until nightfall before breaking into their house and creeps into Jessica's room. Lifting the helpless, sleeping child off her pillow, he locates... a tooth! In a fit of compulsion, Todd crushes the tooth and snorts it from Jessica's bedside table. Wings burst out of his back and he leaps from her window, freed for another short while... until his tooth fairy addiction hits again. The next day after school, Jessica heads towards an ice cream van, a gleaming new coin in hand..."

Alan Rickman: This Sunday’s Podcast – An Educational Conversation with Alan Rickman Post Date: 9 March 2013 (STAR TALK)

Alan volunteered an interesting, science-fictional approach to customize teaching to the unique needs of individuals (with a bit of science magic thrown in, too) which, after all, shouldn’t be surprising coming from an actor who has played a Professor of Potions at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series, a pioneering heart surgeon in Something the Lord Made and a Shakespearean actor playing a Science Officer on Galaxy Quest’s starship, the NSEA Protector.

Just a note for anyone who already watched some of this interview on The Nerdist Channel: there’s more content in Part 1 and Part 2 than made it into the video, so I recommend you check the podcast out, too. (Stay tuned for Part 2 on March 24th.)

Part 1 of the interview will be available on our website and iTunes tomorrow night, Sunday, March 10th, at 7:00pm ET.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!

–Jeffrey Simons

Alan Rickman: Wait, What? ‘Galaxy Quest’ Was Initially R-Rated (GEEKS OF DOOM)

Speaking with Lindsey Collins—producer of the massive Disney blockbuster that hit theaters this weekend, John Carter—recently, Collider’s Steve Weintraub was informed of some long-lost buried treasure of sorts.

Apparently Galaxy Quest, the fantastic 1999 sci-fi comedy starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell (as well as a slew of other familiar faces) as the stars of an old sci-fi TV series (a la Star Trek) who inadvertently find themselves beamed out to space to help very real aliens put an end to the ongoing threats of an evil being named Sarris and his crew, was initially an R-rated comedy before being cut down to the PG version fans know and love.

Collins explained how she came to find out this information while dining with Weaver: “We had lunch with Sigourney, who was telling us that there actually used to be an R-rated version of that movie which was awesome. It was the director’s cut and it was R-rated and everybody was swearing and there were sex scenes, and the whole thing. They didn’t know what to do with it, so they had to re-edit the whole thing and made it what it is today. We were like, ‘How do we get our hands on the R-rated version of Galaxy Quest?’ She said ‘I don’t know!’ and we were like, ‘Come on, Sigourney!’”
