Tom Hiddleston’s 5 best impressions, From the Cookie Monster to Alan Rickman

Tilda Swinton has become the latest celebrity to experience Tom Hiddleston’s knack for uncanny impressions.

Tilda stars in Jim Jarmusch-directed vampire flick Only Lovers Left Alive with Hiddleston, and revealed that her co-star spent a lot of their time together dazzling her with impressions.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: ‘We just sort of chewed it and had a great time. We were nocturnal quite a lot, and we played all sorts of silly stuff. He does quite a lot of impressions pretty constantly.’

While admitting she hadn’t heard Tom do an impersonation of her she added that ‘I have seen his Jim Jarmusch and its very good!’

Hiddleston has been getting Hiddlestoners hot under the collar with his scarily accurate mimicry, but which impression is the best? Here’s our (not definitive) ranking.

5) Chris Evans

Captain America Chris Evans has starred with Hiddleston in Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Thor: The Dark World (albeit briefly), and the pair have done quite a few press rounds, so its unsurprising that Tom has got Evans’ mannerisms on point.

Verdict: While cute, it’s not one of Tom’s better ones though, and nothing beats Evans’ actual speaking voice. Nothing.

4) Samuel L Jackson

It’s a big risk taking on someone as legendary as Samuel L Jackson, but not only does Tom have a go, he puts a Jackson spin on his much-loved Marvel villain Loki.

Verdict: The ‘I am burdened with glorious mother*****g purpose’ line is gold, but you can’t take on Samuel L Jackson and win.

3) Cookie Monster

TOM HIDDLESTON WINS 2013 CELEB OF THE YEAR: HIS 13 BEST MOMENTS FROM THE PAST YEAR

BUSTLE
By Martha Sorren
December 31, 2013

Tom Hiddleston is poised to win this year’s E! Online ‘Celeb of the Year’ contest. The winner will be announced tonight after he and competition Ian Somerhalder went head-to-head in a poll earlier this week. Hiddleston totally deserves to win after the year he’s had touring the world to promote Thor 2: The Dark World and making press stops look like the most fun in the world. Thank goodness he was Marvel’s PR monkey though, because that means we got a lot of Tom in 2013. Needless to say it was hard to choose just his top 13 moments, but I gave it a shot.

1. DANCING AND KNOCKING THINGS OVER
I could make a whole post just about best times Tom Hiddleston’s danced (hint: the answer is all the times), but I’ve chosen to focus on when he dances and it just so uncontrollably excited that he isn’t responsible for the damages he inflicts on inanimate objects. On the Asia leg of his tour he first introduced his moves to us and we felt like the chair he kicked over. But in a good way. We felt kicked over with delight.

2. THE SLUMBER PARTY
Hiddles in pajamas sitting on a bed talking about the time he saw Chris Hemsworth naked and introducing the Snake Hips dance move to us? Yes please.

3. THAT TIME HE CRASHED COMIC CON
In full on Loki gear and then proceeded to give everyone in the room orders which they all obeyed because obviously.

4. HIS STINT ON KOREAN SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
I don’t know how they convinced him to do some of the sketches in this, but I’m glad they did because now we have an old woman titty-twisting Tom for posterity.

5. THAT TIME HE SURPRISED UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS WITH A THOR 2 SCREENING
Because he’s amazingly nice, he took time out of his schedule to throw a surprise screening of Thor 2 for some of New York City’s underprivileged children. They thought they were just lucky enough to see the movie, but also got to meet Hiddleston. “Oh my God, I screamed for my life,” 13-year-old Bryonnah Justinian said of the moment Hiddleston stepped onto the stage. But the best part about the actor is that it wasn’t even a chore for him. He said, “There are armies of people behind the scenes who do tireless work on behalf of children all over the world. So it’s nothing for me to turn up and introduce a screening for them.”

6. LOKI ARGUES WITH KIDS
Further proving that he’d be about the best dad ever, Hiddleston booked another gig with some kids to promote the movie. In the skit he argues with a bunch of children about why Loki is better than Thor. It’s truly precious.

Canada picks their favorite films of 2011

By Jennifer Cox

The editors and writers of the Canadian Press have chosen their top 10 films of the year. Here's a quick sum-up.

50/50
Based on writer Will Reiser's own experience with cancer, director Jonathan Levine struck a chord with viewers as well as the Canadian Press in this flick that is both funny and sad, and extremely heartfelt. CP calls it "one of the cinematic wonders of the year - filled with tiny, miraculous moments that sneak up on the viewer again and again."

Beginners
Writer-director Mike Mills tells an honest and comedic story of an ill father who reveals he's gay at the age of 75. It stars Canadian heavyweight Christopher Plummer along with Ewan McGregor and Melanie Laurent.

Bridesmaids
One of the biggest comedies of the year, this chick-flick (that's funny enough for guys to enjoy too) stars "Mike & Molly" lead Melissa McCarthy as well as Kristen Wiig (who not only appeared in the flick but helped to write it too), Maya Rudolph, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Crazy, Stupid, Love
Who doesn't have a soft spot for funnyman Steve Carell? The romantic-comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" follows a father of two who discovers his wife is having an affair. The supporting cast is a star-studded one with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Drive
Another Gosling film (it won't be his last), "Drive" is an action-drama that CP said, "the graphic violence... punctuates some intense scenes, [and] those looking for something resembling the typical mainstream popcorn flick but with some creative edge got it in 'Drive.'"

Ides of March
Put together an all-star line-up with George Clooney, Gosling (his third time on this list), and Paul Giamatti, mix in a great story about politics in America, and you've got all the ingredients for a hit. It's no wonder "Ides of March" has been nominated for four big Golden Globe awards including Best Picture.

Midnight in Paris
What top 10 films of the year list would be complete without a Woody Allen movie? Screenwriter and star Owen Wilson "rediscovers his passion for the pen when he travels back in time in Paris... Wilson is simply endearing as his character, Gil, encounters a never-ending stream of esteemed authors and artists on his magical midnight escapades through the city's heady 1920s. His signature naturalistic style wrangles the huge ensemble cast into a cohesive tale packed with wit and charm," the CP said.

The Muppets
Classic in its heyday decades ago and making a major comeback, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and whole puppet gang are back and bigger than ever. "The gags are silly and the story is largely predictable but the sheer enthusiasm and heartfelt affection writer/star Jason Segel brings to this vibrant reboot is infectious and more than welcome in an era when most family fare is driven by heavy CGI and snarky pop culture jabs."

Take Shelter
"Take Shelter" is a psychological thriller starring Michael Shannon as a man with pent-up emotions as anxieties, real and imagined, increasingly take hold of him. Terrifying with twists and turns, this movie has a "headlong embrace of both simple naturalism and mind-bending sci-fi-esque imagery."

War Horse
Opening in theatres across the country on Christmas Day, Steven Spielberg's latest creation is a World War One-era tale of a British boy and his horse. The cinematography and details of the film are what truly grab the viewer.

The Immortals now at $170 million worldwide - Weekend Box Office Wrap Up: December 4th, 2011

Dec 4, 2011 by

Here’s our box office report for the weekend of December 2, 2011 featuring the performances of holdover films ‘Breaking Dawn-Part 1′, ‘The Muppets’ and ‘Hugo’ – as well as updates on the rest of the box office top ten.
Muppets hold on to the number 2 spot at the box office
This week:

Twilight‘s Breaking Dawn tops the box office-again; The Muppets score the runner-up spot and Hugo fails to light up the chart on its second week of release.

No major releases were unleashed by studios over the weekend, meaning that movie-goers had to make do with Thanksgiving leftovers. This meant that Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1 ruled the roost for the third week in a row. The vampire romance banked $16.9 million over the weekend and upped its cume to a powerful $247.3 million. The Bill Condon directed film has now brought in over $500 globally – a great number, especially after only three weeks on release, and one that will continue to climb.

The Muppets held onto the number two spot, bringing in $11.2 million worth of green. The much loved characters dipped around 62% from last weekend giving them a total of $56.1 million – about $10 million more than the film’s production cost.

Hugo was third, after scoring another $7.6 million. The Martin Scorsese picture has now grossed $25.2 million, a far cry from its reported $150 million budget. Time will tell if it was a solid bet by Paramount.

Arthur Christmas grabbed fourth place, grossing $7.3 million over the weekend, for a $25 million total cume. It has about three more weeks to make money and then this Christmas themed ‘toon will melt like the winter snow.

Happy Feet 2 continues to underperform. The animated sequel brought in $6 million for $51.7 million total. Maybe they should re-title it Unhappy Feet for the DVD release.

Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill laughed up another $5.5 million, upping its cume to $64.3 million. A so-so number for Sandler, whose movies routinely gross $100 million.

The Descendants reaches seven on the box office chart

George Clooney starrer The Descendants was in seventh place after grossing an additional $5.2 million. The Alexander Payne directed film has a total gross currently standing at a smidgen over $18 million. These are good numbers when you consider that the film is playing in less than 600 theaters.

Sword and sandal pic Immortals sliced up another $4.3 million, bringing its total to $75.5 million – the same number as its production budget. The Henry Cavill film has now banked over $170 million worldwide.

Tower Heist swiped another $4.1 million over the last three days upping its cumulative gross to $70 million. This is a solid number, but one that should have been much, much higher.

Puss in Boots rounded out the top ten. The Antonio Banderas voiced animated film grossed an additional $3 million, giving it a total of $139.5 million, a great number considering that it had a lacklustre debut. The ‘toon had a production budget of $130 million, but it has now grossed over $200 million worldwide.

That’s it for now. See you at the movies.

Favourite Christmas films revealed - Love Actually third only to The Muppets and It's a Wonderful Life

(click on the poster to see the action.  Very cool.)

It's A Wonderful Life has been crowned the ultimate festive flick in a poll to find the nation's favourite Christmas film.

The second most popular was The Muppet Christmas Carol which picked up 10% of votes, followed by the Hugh Grant film Love Actually.

The online poll, carried out by www.radiotimes.com, longlisted 50 films set on or around Christmas and asked people to pick their favourite.

Made in 1946, It's A Wonderful Life - which stars James Stewart as a man who plans to kill himself on Christmas Eve until a guardian angel intervenes - picked up almost a fifth of the 3,000 votes cast (18%).

A slightly less obvious choice was Die Hard which took eighth place. The film, which stars Bruce Willis as off-duty cop John McClane battling a building full of criminals on Christmas Eve, took 4% of the vote.

Radio Times film editor Andrew Collins said: "As it is the season to be jolly, I won't disguise my rosy-cheeked joy that the poll named Die Hard one of the top 10 Christmas movies of all time."

He added: "It's just as capable of producing festive tingles as the more traditional, December-released Muppet Christmas Carol or the cocklewarming Love Actually, which was literally giftwrapped in 2003 with a lovely red ribbon tied around its twinkling poster image."

Amy Adams chats with Access Hollywood at ‘The Muppets’ junket on November 5, 2011

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Lois Lane appears to be very impressed with Superman’s body!

Access Hollywood caught with Amy Adams at the junket for “The Muppets” over the weekend, where she dished on working with new Superman Henry Cavill in the upcoming “Man of Steel.”

“It is a little distracting at first,” Amy, who plays Lois Lane, said of Henry’s ripped body.

Amy added that sometimes, Henry’s fantastic physique, is just part of his appeal.

“When people first see him, it’s like, ‘Wow. You’re actually really good looking,’” she added.

The actress said she was blown away by her co-star’s dedication to getting into super hero shape.

“He’s just such a hard worker and I have so much respect for how hard he’s worked in this role, just tirelessly,” she told Access. “He’s doing a great job.”

As for herself, Amy is loving her latest two roles.

“I’m having a really great time,” she told Access. “I was a huge Superman fan growing up as well. So, between ‘The Muppets’ and Superman,’ I feel like it’s like, ‘Wow! What else?’”

“Man of Steel” is slated for release on June 14, 2013, but fans can first see Amy with Jason Segel – and of course Kermit and Miss Piggy – in “The Muppets,” which hits theaters on November 23.
