Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier

Since the Colin Firth led film hit a sweet spot with audiences and and Hollywood alike with Academy Award wins for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor, it's not surprising that a film in that same vein but with the help of old Hollywood royalty is on the way. THR has word that Europacorp co-founder Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, via his Stone Angel banner, has picked up a script for a film called Grace of Monaco, a story that follows Grace Kelly during a period in 1962 when the city-state of Monaco entered a heated dispute with France, which had grown tired of the principality being a tax haven.

Apparently there was quite a competition to snag the script, and some unnamed filmmakers are already clamoring to tell this story that isn't so much of a biopic as a focus on Kelly's activities during a difficult time for the city-state of Monaco. For those who don't know, during a visit to the Cannes Film Festival in 1955, she was introduced to Prince Rainier of Monaco, and during a visit to America, the prince ended up proposing to her. Their royal wedding followed later the next year and Kelly quickly retired from acting. The film doesn't cover any of the time in her career leading up to the wedding, but rather her role as princess, maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup. It's pretty clear why the film is getting early comparisons to The King's Speech, and the film will likely end up getting awards attention if the right talent comes together. But what actress can bring the charms of Grace Kelly back to the big screen?
