The Queen may have reacted stoically to Aussie Liam Warriner baring his backside in her direction, but previous moonings have had far more far-reaching consequences.
And the Queen is not the first royal to be ass-aulted. During the Battle of Crécy in 1346 when King Edward III took Caen, several hundred Norman soldiers are recorded as having “exposed their backsides to the English archers and many of them paid a high price for doing so”.
Even celebs are not beyond dropping their trousers for similar bare-faced (well, not ‘faced’) cheek-y behaviour, with several notables having got their bums out…
Robbie Williams
Before pulled down his kecks and undies, and mooning at the crowd during the song Come Undone, he reportedly sang: “I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly, ’cos my body’s too bootilicious.”
Joey Barton
The notoriously shy and retiring Joey - then playing for Manchester City - expressed himself in a non-verbal manner for a change when leaving the pitch at Everton in 2006, giving the home fans a peek of his bum.
For his legions of female fans, catching a glimpse of the hunky Hollywood’s stars butt would probably be for a treat. And for the cast and crew of The Bounty Hunter – in which he starred with Jennifer Aniston – Gerard’s mooning was indeed an occasional occurrence.
In a joint interview with her co-star, she said: "You would moon the crew walking by the wardrobe trailer. That's how close our family got!"
Not shy about his posterior, Gerard admitted: "Well, I like to moon."
Anne Hathaway
Gerard is not the only luvvie partial to flashing a bit of rump during filming. At the premiere of One Day, she told of how she got her bum out in the direction of co-star Jim Sturgess.
"I decided to moon Jim one take. I thought this would be great because he was running towards me and the whole crew was behind me, so I thought if I turn around, none of the crew will see it—only Jim," she said.
"Until I realized we were shooting on a street in Scotland and every single resident of the building we were shooting in front of was filming us."
Randy Moss
NFL player Moss of the Minnesota Vikings didn’t actually do a full moon back in January 2005, but he did pretend to pull one after scoring a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers. He was still fined $10,000, despite keeping his bottom covered.
Kid Rock
Mooning onstage is a staple for rock stars. But Kid Rock once took his bummy behaviour offstage – but there was a hitch. As he told a court in Georgia last year, he was unable to perform the gesture fully during an incident in a Waffle House in 2007 due to difficulties undoing his belt buckle..
He said: "I couldn't do what I wanted to do and give him the full moon ... because he was a smart a**."
