Hugh Bonneville eyes Shameless role (THE LIST)

'Downton Abbey' actor Hugh Bonneville wants to star in 'Shameless' and play a character who is the "complete opposite" of himself. Hugh Bonneville wants to star in 'Shameless'.

The 'Downton Abbey' actor would "love" to be cast in a drama series like the Channel 4 show - which documents the lives of a number of families living on a council estate in Manchester - because he is keen to play a character who is the "complete opposite" of himself.

When asked if he would like to be in 'Shameless', he replied: "God, I'd love to be given that opportunity, absolutely, who wouldn't? Every actor would love to be the complete opposite of what they are." Hugh regularly seeks advice from 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes, and admits the film director is a "far better actor" than he is because he knows exactly how his characters should be portrayed.

He added in an interview with Radio Times magazine: "We talk all the time. The other day I went up to him and said, 'Actually, I'm not sure about this, it doesn't quite make sense.' And he explained it in one line and I said, 'Oh, I see exactly what you mean.'
