Tom Hiddleston’s fans made him a top trending topic on Twitter on Friday. (Say that 10 times quickly, I dare you!)
Those fans sent enough tweets containing #HiddlestonsArmy to make that hashtag appear at the top of the trending list.
It all started because a fan had one of those “wouldn’t it be cool if we….” ideas. In its first iteration, the plan was that all the fans (who were in on the idea) would send him the same tweet at the same time, perhaps “Ehehehehe” (an approximation of his unique laugh), or “your army is ready” which we’ll explain in a moment.
In the end they just sent messages out into the Twitterverse with the hashtag HiddlestonsArmy. Maybe they were afraid of freaking him out, if all the messages were sent directly to him. Might blow up his Twitter mailbox, or whatever the correct expression is.
So about the army: If you saw the movie The Avengers, or even just its trailer, you know that Hiddleston plays arch-villain Loki of Asgard (“I am burdened with glorious purpose”). Like arch-villains everywhere Loki wants to rule the Earth. And maybe he’ll move on to the universe after that. Who knows? The actors have signed on for multiple sequels.
