‘Downton Abbey’ Christmas Special 2013 Spoilers: Shirley MacLaine Returns; Plus Is Bates Going Back To Jail? [PREVIEW]

Downton Abbey Season 4 Christmas Special

Downton Abbey Season 4 has ended after 8 intense episodes, but the Crawley family has more in store for us with a brand new Christmas special episode. These solitary episode are usually heart-warming and provide us with a glimpse into the lives of our beloved characters, but last year's special was a complete shocker when they killed off Matthew after the actor Dan Stevens did not renew his contract to reprise his role in the upcoming season. This year Shirley MacLane will return straight from America which will provide with some comedic relief with the very British Violet (Maggie Smith). MacLane will not be alone as she has hauled over her son, which will be played by American actor Paul Giamatti. He will be playing Cora's brother, Harold Levinson and will cause some drama and the Countess of Grantham will actually like him, as opposed to his mother.

Season 4 of Downton Abbey ended with a cliffhanger after we found out that Mr. Green, the valet that raped Anna was dead. Everyone is pointing fingers at Mr. Bates as he left the estate for a couple of hours after he figured out Mr. Green was the culprit that molested his wife. Will the secret be out and land Bates back in jail forever? Funny enough, Bates does not appear in the Christmas special photo (above) which could also mean that they will maybe leave the subject for the next season. Lady Edith is Switzerland bound after she found out she was pregnant. The special takes places during the winter season, could it be Edith is back before time and maybe showing a baby bump she must continue to hide? What if a Christmas miracle happens and Gregson calls her? Then she wouldn't have to give up her baby.

‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 8 spoilers: The finale, and Bates ...

CARTERMATT
November 3, 2013

Next week, “Downton Abbey” season 4 (save for the Christmas special) will come to a close courtesy of an exciting episode that looks to try and tie together some of the many loose ends that have been created over the past several weeks. There will surely be stunners, and there is also the possibility that Mr. Bates could end up finding himself behind bars yet again. (Spoilers ahead!)

Why is that? It all has to do with the news that a certain scoundrel in Mr. Green, as per our review for Sunday’s episode, is back in the Abbey briefly as Lord Anthony Gillingham is staying the night. Thanks to some information getting out, Anna is understandably worried now about whether or not she is going to lose her husband, and all courtesy of his temper and him finding out some more information that could lead to him making a stunning revelation.

As for some other major storylines that you can expect to see…

1. The newly-formed love triangle between Charles Blake, Mary, and Lord Gillingham will really start to bloom as the two men try their best to stake their claim for being with Mary … in as proper a fashion as possible, of course.

***

3. Edith thinks that she has a good situation picked out for her child, and it is courtesy of one of the local farmers. But why not try to be a mother herself? Given the world she is a part of, the little one could still have quite the happy life.
