Colin Firth: From The Oscar Onwards
To say that Colin Firth was the toast of the award's circuit earlier this year would be a little bit of an understatement - he was winning gongs left, right and centre.
But for his outstanding portrayal of King George VI in The King's Speech the British actor got his hands on the most coveted prize in film... an Academy Award.
The King's Speech remains one of the best movie of the years as Firth teamed up with Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.
And he moves from one hugely successful movie to another as he returns to the big screen this week with new project Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy.
This movie his already being raved about as John Le Carre's novel is brought to the big screen by Let The Right One In filmmaker Tomas Alfredson.
And I know it may be a little early to be talking about the Oscars 2012 but there are already some suggestions that Firth could be nominated in a Best Supporting Actor capacity.
In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6's echelons.
2011 has also see Firth complete work on Gambit, a remake of the 1966 film of the same name starring Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine.
Firth takes over the role of Harry Deane from Caine while Cameron Diaz is set to play PJ Puznowski with Alan Rickman and Stanley Tucci also on the cast list.
And the roles for Firth just keep on coming as he is set to join forces with fellow Brit Emily Blunt for Dante Ariola's new movie Arthur Newman, Golf Pro.
2011 has been a super exciting year for the actor and as beautifully delivered a career defining performance.
