The cast and director of new swashbuckling adventure The Three Musketeers, which is playing in cinemas now, have been chatting to FILMCLUB – the nationwide education charity and experts in films for young people.

Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, Logan Lerman, Ray Stevenson and director Paul WS Anderson spoke to the charity about the latest screen adaptation of the classic tale of loyalty and honour, based on the legendary novel by Alexander Dumas.

Director Paul WS Anderson (Resident Evil, Event Horizon) told the charity about remaking such a famous story set in the opulent and turbulent 1700s France; “I wanted to retain essentially the story because I think it’s an amazing story. The themes of the book and the previous films - like love, heroism, loyalty, friendship, the rallying cry of “All for One…”

Orlando Bloom, who plays the baddie Duke of Buckingham, told FILMCLUB about working with Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz, who plays fellow villain Richelieu; “I had a lot of fun working with Christoph Waltz, who is a really great actor. He’s really funny and he’s really intelligent, he was a great wealth of information and I had a lot of fun with him.”

The actor also cited the perils of working on set in 17th Century costumes; “Well, there was a lot of tottering around on heels and a couple of trips and falls which was quite funny!”

The charity - which encourages young people to learn through watching a wide variety of films in school film clubs – also asked the cast why they believe its importance to watch different types of films. Actor Ray Stevenson, who plays Musketeer Porthos, said; “Watching a variety of films - both old and new films - give you such an insight into just experiencing the world in different ways through other people’s eyes. So to see all these different movies you’re not taking one way as the one way path to doing things, or seeing things or understanding things. It just opens your eyes to all these wonderful stories, peoples stories, and its all valid, and all about entertaining as well!”
