She may not have a starring role in the film, but Emma Watson was the star of the red carpet last night at the premiere of My Week with Marilyn. The actress was joined by fellow Brit actor Eddie Redmayne for the gala showing of the film, which follows a visit by Marilyn Monroe to the UK in 1956 to work on the film The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. Also there last night was director Simon Curtis and his wife Elizabeth McGovern, who has become one of the most recognisable faces on British TV thanks to her part in the period soap Downton Abbey.
Scene & heard
Mickey Rourke has dropped out of the gangster film Seven Psychopaths in style – by attacking its Oscar-winning director, Martin McDonagh, and a producer. “The director was a jerkoff. He wanted a whole lot for nothing,” Rourke told Moviefone last week. “ He can go play with himself.”In an earlier interview with the Toronto Star, he said: “I’m not doing it. The producer’s an a*****e. You can put that in big quotes.”
Also angry is Adrian Chiles, blames “dark forces”for the early announcement that he and co-host Christine Bleakley had been sacked from ITV’s Daybreak. “We were assured we could go with our dignity intact,”he told People. “ That’s obviously not happened… Dark forces have leaked it for their own ends and I am mightily unhappy about it.”
Even Delia Smith is talking about arguing, specifically with her husband Michael Wynn Jones. “He likes to cook, and that’s the cause of a lot of arguments,”she tells the Mail on Sunday. “It’s very hard to watch someone not doing it properly…”
Shared effort, shared reward
Having shared the roles of the Creature and Frankenstein in Frankenstein, Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch shared the glory last night as they picked up the award for (joint) best actor at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London. Also sharing an award (with himself) was the writer Richard Bean, as his works The Heretic and One Man, Two Guvnors split the honours. Sheridan Smith was named best actress for her role in Flare Path, while Kristin Scott Thomas won the Lebedev Special Award in recognition of her recent work on the stage. There was also a spot of spousal struggle in the best newcomer category, as Kyle Soller edged out his wife Phoebe Fox to win.
