Clive Owen will play a hedge fund manager in 'Cities' about the disgraced Raj Rajaratnam

Hedge funds will continue to get the Hollywood treatment, with a pair of big-screen stories about the industry in the works—including one about the disgraced Raj Rajaratnam.
The Galleon Group founder's biopic is still in the early stages. But Roger Donaldson's Cities has already signed up three big names, including Clive Owen as a hedge fund manager.
Cities is to feature three interlocking stories—the others featuring Orlando Bloom in London and Anil Kapoor in Mumbai. Owen will play a New York hedge fund manager with the standard hedge fund manager obsessions: money, sex and power. The film, which is to begin production in the spring, will also feature Kirsten Dunst.
Meanwhile, screenwriter-director Nayan Padrai plans to bring Rajaratnam's story to the big screen in Billion Dollar Raja. 108 Productions calls the movie "an investigative financial mafia drama inspired by the true story of Galleon Group founder Mr. Raj Rajaratnam, his network of Wall Street honchos, big corporate insiders, employees and a prosecution team determined to punish those involved in the most complex insider-trading case in history through secret wire-tap recordings.
No casting decisions have been announced, although 108 plans to film in New York, Florida and Italy. Rajaratnam himself will no doubt be unavailable, as he's to begin his 11-year prison sentence early next month.
"I am a big fan of films like All the President's Men, Donnie Brasco and The Social Network," Padrai said. "The elements of this case are irresistible with a mafia-style operation in the shady underbelly of Wall Street offices, filled with prosecutors, wiretaps, tipsters, a mole, sexual encounters, unapologetic greed, major corporations and the billionaire king of the markets, a.k.a. Raja."
