WORLD EXCLUSIVE: J.K. Rowling discusses the women of Harry Potter

Nine to Five

JK. Rowling has announced that it was Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) who was originally supposed to fight off Snape (Alan Rickman), instead of Professor McGonagall (Maggie Smith), in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

In a NinetoFive world exclusive clip, below, Rowling says she wanted the last instalment of the Harry Potter series to reflect the book.

“There was an earlier draft…at one point, it was Harry who took on Snape in that confrontation and I really didn’t want that to happen,” she explains.

“In the book, Minerva McGonagall is the one who does it and for me it was very important that she did that.”

In the clip below, Rowling further discusses the women of Harry Potter.

“I don’t like the marginalisation of women when the fighting breaks out,” she says.
“We get to fight too.”

The movie, which grossed $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office, is due for release on DVD November 16.

The clip is part of a feature which can be seen in its full form as a special feature on the Blu-Ray 3D version, also out November 16.

In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe, but it is Harry Potter who may
be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort.

The collective Harry Potter films are the highest-grossing franchise of all time, a global record it has held since the success of the sixth film, 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
