mother killed by a rampaging Heraklion army led by the bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), Theseus vows revenge. Raising a small army of his own and having the favour of the gods, Theseus and his followers must put and end to the savage army's rampaging which is destroying the land, before there is nothing left to save.
Tarsem Singh is a very talented and visual director, who directed one of my favourite films of all time, The Fall back in 2006. He is also working alongside some of the producers involved with 300, the blood covered, abs flaunting, visually stunning tale of 300 Spartans holding their own against a vast and never ending army. With such a visually enthusiastic team as this, we can expect some of the beauty associated with Tarsem's The Fall mixed with some top notch, blood driven 300 style action.
What you may notice about this film is the lack of 'big names', besides Mickey. This is something I have always found appealing, the excitement of discovering new actors and their new and unpredictable style of acting. Also, I've said it before and I will say it again, with new actors, the likes of which people have often not heard of, there is that sense of realism added to the picture. These could actually be the heroes of legend, as opposed to a big actor but with a slightly different accent this time.
This film looks absolutely brilliant. I loved 300, which the style of this appears to be based on, and Tarsem is a big win with me. So if you are looking for an action packed, mythological war film with stunning effects and a top class directer and crew then look no further.
Immortals will be in cinemas everywhere November 11, so what are you waiting for, clear you schedule for Friday and prepare to be entertained.
