New Year Preview: The Woman In Black (Female First)

29 December 2011

The Woman In Black is one of the 2012 movies that I am already super excited about - it really does look jump out of your seat creepy.

This is a change of pace and genre for Daniel Radcliffe in his first major movie role since the end of Harry Potter last summer.

Susan Hill created one of the most atmospheric novels when she penned The Woman in Black and in the hand of director James Watkins it looks like all of that has been transferred into the movie.

This is only the second directorial outing for Watkins and it is his first movie since Eden Lake back in 2008.

He has teamed up with Jane Goldman who has hardly put a foot wrong in recent years, penning scripts such as Stardust, Kick Ass and X-Men: First Class - she has adapted the novel into s screenplay.

The Woman In Black tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House.

Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances.
When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.

And Radcliffe is joined on the cast list by Ciaran Hinds, Liz White, Janet McTeer.

It’s great to see Radcliffe move away from Harry Potter and The Woman in Black looks set to show that he has an acting career away from the boy wizard.

Early trailers and images have promised much for this movie… lets hope that it delivers and has us all jumping out of our seat!!

The Woman In Black is released 10th February.
