Martin Clines: Doc Martin star Martin Clunes adopts Hans Price Academy hen (THIS IS SOMERSET)

TV star Martin Clunes has a new feathered friend – a hen which lives at a Weston-super-Mare school.

Mr Clunes, best known for his role as grumpy Cornish GP Doc Martin, decided to sponsor Princess Fiona to raise money for the Hans Price Academy.T

The school has eight chickens, which live in a special farm area on the school campus and are looked after by pupils. Others up for “adoption” include cockerel Elvis and a black hen called Ruby. Academy principal Armando Di-Finizio has also adopted a hen called Evangelina.

The hens were hatched on campus last September and have recently started laying their first eggs. Money raised from the adoption scheme will go to expanding the garden project to create areas where more fruit, vegetables and herbs can be grown.

Mr Di-Finizio said: “When I came to the academy it was always my vision to have a small farm here. “Mr Clunes heard about the project through a friend of a friend and decided to adopt Princess Fiona. “We are delighted to have him as one of our sponsors.”
