Downton's Rob James-Collier on how his working class background drove him to succeed (MAIL ON LINE)


Steely Determination: Rob James-Collier says that his lack of 'comfort blanket' in his early acting years drove him to work harder to achieve his goals  



'It gives you a grittier determination' By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN Last updated at 10:43 AM on 7th March 2012 Speaking to the Radio Times, he said he worked in manual labour jobs before landing his big break and said: 'Particularly with internships, you have to work for a year with no money. How on earth are you going to finance that?' Rob, who also worked as a model, was raised in Salford and worked as a bricklayer’s labourer and packed frozen pasties in a factory before landing on his feet as an actor. He said: 'Because you’ve done the horrible jobs it gives you an even grittier determination to succeed.
