The Hobbit is saved... by Gandalf: Actor Sir Ian McKellen helps pub in name row (MIRROR)



Sir Ian accused rights-holder Middle-Earth Enterprises of “unnecessary pettiness” for telling the pub to drop its name and themeA pub called The Hobbit, facing a court battle with movie chiefs over its name, has been saved…by Gandalf. 

Sir Ian McKellen, 72, who plays the wizard in The Lord of the Rings films, accused rights-holder Middle-Earth Enterprises of “unnecessary pettiness” for telling the pub to drop its name and theme. The US firm now says a nominal licensing fee of $100 (£63) may settle the row.
