Maggie Smith: Downton Abbey fans have reason to celebrate

DOWNTON Abbey fans have two reasons to celebrate – a movie may be in the pipeline and Maggie Smith WILL be in the new series.

Brendan Coyle, who plays valet Mr Bates in the ITV1 hit, has backed rumours of an upcoming film version.

He said: “If it’s a great, great script, I’d do it. It’s a good idea.

“Julian Fellowes is a terrific writer, so it would have to be something, I imagine, completely removed from the series.”

Meanwhile, show bosses have rubbished reports that Dame Maggie, who plays the scene-stealing Dowager Countess, is to die in the new series.

Executive producer Rebecca Eaton recently let slip that a leading character would be killed off in the series returning in September.
