After the death of Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey's Christmas resulting in Dan Stevens' leaving the show, sources say Miranda star Tom Ellis will be Lady Mary's new love interest.
The actor, who is married to Tamsin Outhwaite, is thought to have left producers impressed after his audition.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, a source said, "He really showed his versatility, and he's also incredibly popular with the female viewers."
