The Dark Knight Rises' Tom Hardy has joined the U.S.S.R.-set spy drama Child 44, based on the first book in author Tom Rob Smith's trilogy.
Easy Money director Daniel Espinosa leads this tale about a security officer trying to investigate a series of child murders in a society that denies such crimes exist in their country. Despite being demoted and eventually exiled, with the support of his wife he can't let go of his quest for justice. Joining Hardy are The Killing's Joel Kinnaman, Prometheus' Noomi Rapace, Harry Potter's Gary Oldman and The Master's Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Hardy has completed filming a couple different projects that are in post-production. Among them are James Gandolfini's final film, the crime drama Animal Rescue, which brings together a few story elements including a murder, lost pit bull and a scam artist.
Based on a short story by Shutter Island author Dennis Lehanne, the film costars Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows' Noomi Rapace, Orange is the New Black cast member Elizabeth Rodriguez and Animal Kingdom's James Frecheville.
