UNREALITY PRIMETIME

When Dan Stevens decided to quit Downton Abbey last year, fans worried what effect this development would have on his on-screen wife, and the actress who plays her.
Dan Stevens’ character, Matthew Crawley, was the pinnacle of the show, heir to the estate and love of Lady Mary’s life, leaving the writers with no option than to kill him off during last Christmas Day special.
Matthew’s death sent shock waves and disappointment around the world, with many people left fearing for the future of his on-screen wife, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).
But if you were one of those that worried that Michelle Dockery, the actress who plays her, would follow Stevens’ lead and move to the bright lights of America too, you can all breathe a sigh of relief as it doesn’t sound like she is going anywhere anytime soon, as she has been explaining to InStyle magazine how grateful she is to the show and how playing Mary has given her a sense of security!
Discussing the impact Downton has had on her life, the actress explained to the publication:
“It’s a very solid and successful job; it just gives you that sense of security.
“I mean, I own a flat now. I worked out I moved 16 times from the age of 19, just hopping about from different flats, because I couldn’t always afford to stay. It’s lovely to feel stability.”
