Brendan Gleeson has been nominated in the Best Actor category for the Moet British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), which were announced in London last night.

Gleeson has been nominated for his role in The Guard, which also sees Irish director John Michael McDonagh nominated in the Best Screenplay category for his debut feature.
Michael Fassbender has also been nominated in the same category, for his role in Shame, which has been nominated in seven categories at the awards.

Other Irish nominations at the awards include Irish director Cathy Brady's Rough Skin which has been given the nod in the Best British Short category and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey who is being recognised in the Best Technical Achievement category for We Need To Talk About Kevin.
The winners will be announced at the 14th annual awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday 4 December in London.
