Gig ... Paul McCartney arrived by helicopter for 35-song set
Published: 07th December 2011
YOU can count on one hand the artists who could play three hours of material without a single duff song.Sir Paul McCartney is one of them. He had the O2 hanging on his every word, as he always does, with an epic 35-song set last night.
Sir Paul McCartney is one of them. He had the O2 hanging on his every word, as he always does, with an epic 35-song set last night.
Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chris Martin and Rihanna have all taken the Jubilee Line to the venue in the past, but Macca arrived by chopper.
And quite right – they still have a long way to go to lace his songwriting boots. The set included a greatest hits of The Beatles, WIngs, The Fireman and solo material from a long and glorious career.
He had a party for friends and family afterwards. Kate Moss and Ronnie Wood, who joined Macca on stage for Get Back earlier in the night, turned up for a nibble of the veggie catering.
It sounds dark to say it but it's incredibly sad to think Macca won't be gigging for ever.
He ended the night by saying: "See you next time."
He's 69 but his voice and his brilliant band sound as good as ever.
Here's hoping he's got plenty more years to come entertaining his massive army of fans.
